hello guy's, I bought runner 1998 3 days ago, this is my first car. I'm interested what is the best oil for this car? in manual SAE 5W- 30 is the best choice. what you prefer? Amazon.com: Valvoline VV179 MaxLife Synthetic SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil - 1 Quart Bottle (Case of 6): Automotive is this a good oil for this car?

I go and get Shell Rotella T oil at wally world for all of my vehicles. I use the 10W-30 Synthetic in my runner. I've read a lot of good things about it, and best of all, it's cheap.

Honestly, it doesn't matter what brand oil you put in it. The no name stuff will work just fine. Just grab the weight that is good for the temperatures you will see. There's all kinds of info on synthetic vs conventional online.

Changing your oil is far more important than what type of oil. Get a oil with seal conditioners like you have found and you should be fine.

I use Mobile 1 high mileage or Valvoline max life.

Japanese car's don't care too much.... but the SAE ratings are crap.

That Motor Oil is fine to use.

I would guess you are likely our only member from the Republic of Georgia. Welcome.

Pennzoil, Castrol, Valvoline, Redline, Motul, etc. will all work fine. Just stick with name brand oil and buy the correct grade. I would get 5W30.

I would also say you might want to do something like Pennzoil or Valvoline high-mileage conventional 5W-30.

Some people might say here to go fully synthetic with Mobil1 or Amsoil, but if your engine has ran since 1998 without it, I'm not sure it's the best choice to 'convert' now.

Like someone said earlier in this thread though; changing oil on a consistent basis is more important then the synthetic vs conventional argument.

Mobil 1 10/40 and a quart of synthetic Lucas. It should be obvious to use a good disposable filter.

I use Mobil high mileage 10w-30, mainly because summers here are triple digits all season long, and it seems to run better than using 5w-30. The owners manual has a small chart showing 5w-30 preferred for lower than 100F temps, and 10w-30 can be used for temps above 0F...
Here's their wording directly under the chart:
"SAE 5W-30 is the best choice for your vehicle, for good fuel economy and good starting in cold weather.
If you use SAE 10W-30 engine oil in extremely low temperatures, the engine may become difficult to start, so SAE 5W-30 engine oil is recommended."

The best motor oil IMO is the one in your oil pan,get my drift? Most newer oil out in the market can handle up to 6 mos. or 8k miles of abuse regardless if synthetic or not.:high5:

That is the $25,000 question!op2: I just use the Toyota oil and filter and have had no problems. I get 6 quarts of 5W-30 and an oil filter for about $30 from my local dealer. I will say that the OEM filter is very, very good quality.

I put extra virgin olive oil in my 4 runner. Joking on the side, I agreed with Blazerunner Mobil 1 10/30.

Odometer: 249,500 (oem everything)

I use Castrol high-mileage (part synthetic) 10W-30 in mine. I figure the bearings are loose enough at 170K miles that it could use a little thicker oil on cold starts. It also doesn't get that cold here - a few nights below zero each winter.
