What is this cable?

I found this cable near my rear end, and it appears to be free from its inteded attachment but can't figure out what it does or where it goes.

My first thought would be parking brake, because I can't think of anything else back there that would require a cable.

If it reaches one of the rear wheels then second vote for parking brake, though it looks a bit chincy for that.

It could be part of the HVAC system, watch it while someone inside plays with all the levers or knobs switching the vet options around, especially the recirculation button.

Here is another pic of it. It definitely goes to the diff lock motor, you can see in this photo, but can't figure out what it goes to on the body side. It has a little rubber cap on it and doesn't look like a wiring connector.

Its a breather for the motor.

While swapping rear coils, I noticed this too. I just attached mine with the little clip that's on it to whatever was near-by so it didn't get caught on anything. Forgot all about it until I saw this thread.
