Hello,

I recently bought a 2000 4runner SR5; it is fantastic. This site has helped me to add a remote unlock and to fix the clock already... THANKS!!!!

I have one mystery that is bugging me and I hope someone can help. There are two square rubber buttons on the side of my instrument panel housing that are not listed in the owner's manual. I have no idea what they are for and it bugs me every time I see them! They do not appear to be aftermarket; the install is too clean and the area is to difficult to justify.

Can anyone identify these for me?? I have attached a picture for reference.

Thank you,

Tabo

Have you tried pushing the buttons? Maybe it'll answer your question. It's not stock.

They appear to have no effects/function at all. I will defer to those with more familiarity than me that they are not stock; I am amazed that someone placed them in this location - it is not exactly convenient. At least the plastic matches so they are not too obvious...

None the less, I am annoyed by the sight of them without knowing what they are supposed to do!!! OCD at it's finest, I suppose...

Thanks,

Tabo

Maybe it's some kind of valet button for an aftermarket alarm system. Remove the trim piece and follow the wires coming out of it and see where it goes. That would most likely be the only way to figure it out because as already said it's not stock so none of us are likely to know.

Mysterious buttons

I bet it's a passanger ejection button, that would explain the location. Out of sight from the passanger view...is the passanger seat newer then the drivers?

:lookout:

What's that you say? ....you never read the hitchhikers bible?
One second while I just push this....kaboom!! Dam forgot to open the sunroof!

Hmmm... Could it be a Nitrous Express System Activation Push Button? :noidea:

Looks like a valet button for the older clifford/DEI aftermarket alarm.

DING - DING - DING - We have a winner!!!!:hail:

(I know someone else said valet switch first, but you nailed it as a Clifford. It matches the pictures in the online Clifford manuals exactly).

Thank you!!!

P.S. Now I will have to find the unit and rip it out... at least I have a wire to follow.

As soon as I read the OP's post this is exactly what I was going to say. Haha

Well at least you know your passenger is safe, for now. Poor Clifford, got nailed!
