Man you're killing me!! Hey no worries I thought this was a thread to give feedback. I work as a design engineer and we use forum's like this quite a bit for feedback, A great place to come to know what to do for upgrades for future products. We never get really good feedback when we send out forms or have focus groups. These are the places to come when we really want to find out what the folks are thinking.


I realize the things people list on here are small complaints but at the same time I bet a majority of buyers on here bought the truck for some small reason. i.e. the rear glass going down with remote or the color or something. So these small upgrades or changes may lead to new buyers and new members of the forum.

I guess it's kind of like the rear hatch/cargo light. It's dim enough the way it is, and when you stick you head in the cargo area, your head blocks the light. Useless.

This brings up a complaint of mine. There should be light on either side (or better yet, both sides) of the cargo area, too.

But the concept of having a light, even under the hood, is good. Better than total darkness, I guess.

However, I think there's a way to get plain old outside air in... just turn off the ac and "auto" feature and set the cabin temp below the temp outside, or just set it down all the way to "Lo". That should mean outside air is coming in... "should" being the key word. Does anyone know if this is the case? I assume it is.

What happens to me whenever I turn it to low is the recirc light comes on. So you have to make sure to turn that off.

That's a feature, because it thinks "Low" = "Max A/C".
The most efficient way to cool the inside of the car as fast as possible is to re-cool air that it has already cooled. For years, the manual for all the sliders has told you to turn on recirc when you want the fastest A/C cooling. Now the computer is doing it for you.
Leave it one notch above "Low" and it won't keep turning on recirc.

When in this setting you would assume 'fresh' air would be entering the cabin. Mine sometimes blows hot air when in this setting. Very frustrating.

I almost never use the auto feature, prefering to manually turn on/off the a/c.

My 78 280Z had a light mouted under the hood with about 5' of wire wound behind it. You could pop the light and move it around. Basically a wired flashlight.

Yeah, a tiny one. I am not sure if it is any good for the stuff that you do under the hood at night. It's more cute than useful. It's a good way to show off the mouse fur when you open the gove box.

In all three of my cars, i have a flashlight. In my G, i have the "Hummer" flashlight. It is indestructible. Waterproof. LED bulb. And you shake it for 30 seconds to get 5 mins of light. No battery needed. It should last a long time with the LED bulb (> 25 years?).

In my fiance's Highlander, i got her a cheapo "winding" flashlight. You wind it up for 1 min to give you 20 min of light. It uses 3 small LED bulbs. No battery needed. It is not as tough as my Hummer flashlight.

In my Corolla, i have flashlight with air pump that connects to cigarette lighter.

My 2006 Sport has a cargo light?

Like others, I could use more head room.

I finally got around to looking for the cargo light and found it. It was turned off when I bought the truck, and I never thought about looking for it in the daylight. Having it on sure makes a difference instead of depending on the overhead light in the passenger area! Thanks for your post.

The 30-second time limit after you unlock the doors, why do they have to lock back?

you left your truck and locked it, right? and
say you didnt know that you accidentally unlocked it and you walked away, your 4R will lock itself up.

7. The fact that the "SPORT Edition" of the 4R does not come with the Compass mirror!!!!!!! By it's very nature the Sport Edtion would incline you to think it was geared towards someone who may take the 4R off the beaten path a little more. As opposed to the limited edition which beckons to more comfort. I know I probably started something, but I am speaking in generalities now. I had to order the Compass Gentex mirror, because I had it in my jeep and it is very hard not to have it.

I should have been more specific on my original post, it would have been nice to have the compass mirror as a standard on the SE not just an option. Then again I figure it should just be standard on all models. But if we had a thread started that said list five items that should be standard on "all models" of 4Runners we would never get everyone to agree

Top 10 Things that get me:

10: Mirrors - these things are so big that i have a blind spot at 2 o'clock big enogh to hide a mini-van
9: No VSC/ATRAC on/off (and don't rant to me about this I've read the other posts - STOP PREACHING!!!)
8:Trip Computer Accuracy - According to it I have a range of 625km on a full tank when my gas gauge and tripmeter say 475km
7: Sound System - This is a given for any factory system
6: I boght the V6 instead of V8 because of the 2WD option and I can't do DONUTS (w/o locking center diff in 4WD) WTF!!!
5: The stupid "Dummy Buttons"
4: Plastic covers on front-seat-sliders - The outer ones on driver and passenger sides broke off and fell out of truck in under a month
3: Non-functioning Hood-Scoop - Yes I bought it for the looks but some ram-air induction would be cool too.
2: The SPORT on my embriodered floormats is an iron on patch that began peeling off in the first week.
And the number 1 thing that gets me: No available manual transmission.

All that and I still love my baby and wouldn't trade her for anything.

Y'know, the tailgate is pretty heavy and I still haven't figured out how to close it without looking like I'm having a fit. To make matters worse, that strap inside is utterly useless in helping pull it down. You end up on the ground before it's anywhere near closed.

I use the strap in my right hand to get it started, then step out of the way and as the rear hatch is closing reach on the outside and put the palm of my left hand on the Toyota emblem to gently push it down. The auto close feature does the rest. I don't like grabbing the bottom edge or pushing on the outside. Pushing on the emblem doesn't leave any marks.

Worst thing is the steering. There's no on-center feel and the steering is too fast lock-to-lock. The truck wanders a good bit on the highway and you really have to pay attention, constantly giving it minor corrections, to stay in the center of the lane. Very tiring.

Sounds like you need an alignment. Get the stealer to do it under warranty if it's brand new.
