What kind of supplies do you guys keep in the rig?

After last weekend where my buddy ran off the road and his passenger was dinged up. I bought a first aid kit to keep in the truck as well as a thermal foil blanket and a flash light. What else do you guys keep in there?

Normally i keep my hiking lightweight kit with me most times but i had forgotten it this time and really needed it, hence is why i purchased the dedicated one for the truck.

Since I'm in Southern California (the land of Shake & Bake) I try to be prepared. They say you should have enough supplies to last 3 to 5 days in an emergency.

I have the following:

- 12 MREs (Meals Ready to Eat).
- 12, 1 Quart bottles of water.
- 1 American Red Cross FR400 Emergency Radio
- 1 Leatherman PST II Multi-tool
- Kenwood Ham radio (modified)
- Emergency blanket
- First Aid Only 118 Piece All Purpose First Aid Kit
- Surefire E2 & Mini-Maglite flashlights
- Flint & waterproof matches
- Spare eyeglasses
- Shaving bag w/ toilet paper, toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, razor, floss, toenail clippers
- Change of clothes (underwear, socks, pants, shirt, shoes)

I carry it all in a TCL Adventure Gear 29" Multi-Pocket Duffel bag.

this summer my fishing gear has not left the back.

if going on a longer trek I have a small bin that is ready to go, containing a few more tools and things..

I have the Toyota Emergency Assistance Kit which includes jumper cables, emergency blanket, flashlight, batteries, multi-tool, tire pressure gauge, hose clamp, duct tape, a bungee, whistle, gloves and a bunch of other stuff. I also have the Toyota First Aid Kit with the basic bandages, dressings and a couple other things. I also keep a couple bottles of water in the glove box.

Depends where I'm going... normal urban driving, not much more than the basic roadside emergency kit... flares, tow strap, jumper cables, flashlight etc.

I'f I'm going off-road camping, then a whole lot more, although my camping gear covers most of the survivial basics. If I'm going up to the snow, the basics plus a few energy bars, shovel, salt, blanket etc.

IMO it's not worth filling your car with gear for every eventuality when you're near an urban area and well within cellphone range. Even in my first aid kit I only have the basics (swabs, bandaids etc.), mainly because a lot of that stuff goes out of date way faster than usual when kept in the heat of a car.

Seriously, we have a McGuyver on the site. A real Boy Scout.
I do similar (but not as much food and water or radios) on longer winter trips. Everyday, I have the cell phone, first aid kit, booster cables, receiver shackle, tow strap, reflective triangle, work gloves and ice scraper/snow brush.
Good idea on the Red Cross radio. Where do you get them?

Thick blanket in the cargo area. I use it as a mat, but can also be used to keep warm in cold weather.

Actually, now that I think about it, I have everything I need to repair a punctured tire on the road. My Leatherman tool opens up to a Needle Nose plier to remove the nail (or whatever object punctured my tire), the tire plug kit has everything needed to install a tire plug, and my 12-volt compressor will pump up the tire.

In addition to many of these things listed I always carry much of my gear in a medium size hiking pack. You never know when you'll have to take off on foot should a real disaster occur and you get trapped on a roadway. Believe me, you can't get far carrying a duffel bag and it is best to keep the hands free. You may want to consider water purification tabs or filter as you can only carry so much water.

Shop towels are much better at mopping up spills and look better. I get mad at people in my area for not carrying jumper cables or water. Then they think it`s funny to see that I have cables, first aid kit, etc. I don`t understand that. It doesn`t take a lot to be stranded and during our summers you can bet on it being at least 100 degrees.
I don`t carry as much as I should and I need to clean out my water jugs but here`s what I have:
Jumper cables because batteries go bad really quickly out here and I have an electrical problem
3 64oz water jugs filled with water, you would be amazed to hear how many people think I carry those to throw water on the engine if it overheats:bash:
First aid kit with the basics but extra heat stuff
Fire extinguisher should be self explanatory
Quik detailer and a microfiber because my paint sucks and I`d like to keep what`s left of it
Baby wipes because they stay moist for a long time and get the engine gunk off my hands
Pet hair removal sticky wand thing for when I`m going to interviews or just want the hair off me.
Bug repellant spray because I HATE bugs
Sunblock because my arm gets burnt if the window is down.
Spare leashes and lines,correction collars, treats, toys, clickers, etc. because I train dogs and just store all my equipment in my truck.
Spare tire and printed directions on how to change a tire
Multimeter because I was testing my battery for drain and just decided to leave it in the truck.

I need:
a tow strap because if my truck dies on the side of the road (again!) I can flag down almost any truck especially one with a hitch to tow me a short distance, I got lucky last time and this nice guy with a tow strap got me into a subdivision to give me a jump
small camera in glove box to take photos of damage right after an accident or if I just see something cool and I want to get a photo, like 3 generations of 4Runners (including mine) at the same stop light a few days ago.

a basic tool kit- right now I carry a big heavy pair of pliers and a smaller thin pair. It works on almost anything but a tool kit is better

something big and heavy to smack the morons (3 so far!) who ask why I took the emblem off a 4Runner and put it on my truck.
