Been researching alot. I have around $800 to spend. I could go some over if i needed. But what lift is best out of the following? I do mostly road driving so the ride quality is very important. I would like it to ride better than stock. Please vote and give me your reasoning! thanks!

I voted for the full OME set-up because I believe in the "systems" approach. I've never tried the other combos, but I have had a full OME set-up on a Gen3 and absolutely loved it... it completely transformed the Gen3! To me, it's important to have a shock that is specifically designed and valved for the spring it's being used with for any given vehicle set-up. I currently have FJ coils with stock XREAS and I love the ride quality, but I know that it could be better and with a similar budget, the OME is at the top of the list. If I wanted to spend another $500, I'd probably go with the OW full set-up.

Good luck... I'll be watching to see how this poll goes!

Thanks for the input guys. I don't plan on adding a front bumper or anything anytime soon. Maybe a light bar but that's about it. I really like the OME full set up as well but how is the ride opposed to stock?

I see the Toytec/5100's have the most votes. Anyone have personal experience? Or reasons why? Thanks for the help guys.

One of the problems with this type of vote is that people will simply vote what they themselves bought. They're all good set-ups; you just have to pick what you think fits your needs.

Another thing to consider, even the option "full OME setup" has many subcategories. They have a plethora of spring options, and two shock/strut options. You can tailor-make a full OME setup to what you want and expect.

Is it correct to assume you just want a lift for looks or to balance out the spacing from the front to rear? Also, since you do drive mostly on the road, I would suggest to just go with 5100s with stock springs. Set the front to either the 2nd (rear still a bit higher) or 3rd level (level but if you have any cargo in the back the front ends up higher) for more balanced look. Cost is about $350 at shockwarehouse.com and you don't bother searching/buying FJ springs.

I have thought about that, empty. I do go off roading a fair amount though. That is what leads me to the bigger lifts. Most trails in my area are pretty tough. But I am considering the FJ/5100 set up for now then a change for bigger if I wanted.

It sounds like your considering close to a 2.5"-3" lift. If you are you may need to get aggressive looking AT, MT and/or larger tires, otherwise your tires may look small.

I have an AT tire. It actually looks very aggressive on the tread. Cooper discoverer AT3.

Do it right the first time. This is a common theme with the more seasoned guys. Many people spend money on a cheaper setup to "try it out" and later spend even more money later on upgrading their "upgrades".

Now with that said I voted for the OME setup (or coilovers if you can cough up the money). I just had the 884/superflex flavor installed and I'm very happy with the look. It's my DD for a 60 mile daily commute and even with the superflex coils its firm and rides much more like a truck then with the X-REAS. I believe the superflex coils are 15-20% stiffer then stock and the 895 rears are 40% stiffer then stock while the FJ springs are roughly 5% stiffer then stock. Please don't quote me on those exact numbers but they are close.

If you don't want a much firmer ride then the 5100/fj combo is probably right for you.

Nope, I have the OME shocks that Toytec recommends. Mixing stock shocks and aftermarket springs that give as much lift as the OME is not recomended, they aren't tuned for each other and the stock shocks can top out more easily. Getting a setup that is tuned together will yield the best results.

No good pics but the OME makes it look like a completely different truck. No more minivan!

Are there any people from here or the other sites in your area? One test ride is worth a 1000 words. Plus hearing some back to back comparos would be great.

Would the be much difference between the OME and 5100 shocks? Ride quality? Hight? Would they work just as well together? (so sorry for the obnoxious amount of questions. Very appreciative of all the help)

OME shocks are designed to work with their coils, so that's probably the "best" option. However, I hate the yellow shock body (and I already had 5100's before the OME coils), so I used 5100's. Seem to work very well together. 5100's are designed for lifted setups, so they work very good as well. I have no complaints with my 5100/OME setup, but I've not used the OME shocks either.

Good question, like ARK said most people have good experience with the 5100s. The OME shocks were designed with the springs in mind but the 5100s are a proven off road adjustable shock. I think the shocks are somewhat similar but good luck getting hard numbers.

I think you'll be happy with any of the setups, if you want slightly firmer then 5100/fj springs should work, much firmer OME superflex setup, very firm/weight carrying then OME 895e or other flavors. Or if you want to be a BAMF then get a 3.5 LT kit :D.

Agree 100%. I had the 5100/FJ setup and 5100/OME (stock rear though), for on road I prefer the 5100/OME's. It's stiffer, but I like that. I get much less body roll in turns and less nose dive when braking. Small bumps are soaked up better, real rough stuff you begin to notice the stiffer coils (not quite as smooth).
