I am struggling with my purchase decision. On one hand, i love all the features of the limited but at 46k msrp plus the pluses, im struggling with the amt of money.

The sr5 seems ok but im less excited about this model though with a msrp of 36$ and a purchase price of 32, it is easier to love. The sr5 premium is dressed up a bit but seems to come with the 3rd row seat option, something i don't want.

Anyway, just curious what most of u r buying and why. If i cAn find a sr5 that i like, i would go that route but sure like the limiteds.

You're looking at almost two completely different ends of the spectrum here...10k difference on a 30-40k vehicle is a big jump, lol. IMO, first decide which one you can purchase within your means comfortably, then decide which one you can buy w/o regret. There's no sense in buying the the SR5 if you can afford the LE and know you're gonna regret it; on the other hand, there's also no sense overshooting your budget by an extra 30% just to have a few extra creature comforts.

I was in a similar situation, could have afforded a limited, but didn't want to spend 8k more for options I didn't need. Had mind set on trail, and was heading down to dealership to buy one with kdss, but other dealer sold it so they couldn't trade. Ended up buying base sr5 with nav. Saved 8k over a limited and 3k over a trail. With those savings, I did katzkins leather and heated seats, lift, tires, wheels, hid conversion, tint. Now she is the way I want it.

Why I went LE

I've had my LE for three weeks. Most of my mileage is on the road from OK to Iowa for college sports, so comfort is important. BTW, the LE is not bad on the highway for long stretches, but you won't get the sticker mileage. I average about 17 highway at 80 mph. Right now the off road capability isn't as important as snow maneuvering. I've seen arguments both ways for the third row seat. Mine is down. Had one in my 2010 Honda Pilot, and only used it twice. Underfloor storage would be nice to have, but easy to work around. I have really appreciated the small things on the LE, but then, I'm 53, so the creature comforts make my life a little easier. The only drawback to the LE (in my opinion) is the 20" wheels. While they look good, tire availability isn't good. To change tires most likely will mean a wheel change as well (eventually). Make the choice that fits what you need, and can afford, for the next 5-6 years. If you can swing the LE without struggling on the payment, and like the vehicle, go for it. Otherwise, they're all 4Runners underneath. Good luck!

How does the Trail have a higher resale value? I'm debating between the SR5 and TE. I'm feeling really guilty about liking the TE and not the SR5. My wife on the other hand wants me to save some money. The dealer has my deposit, but I haven't chosen the style yet.

Agreed. Unless you're IN LOVE with new front fascia on '14's...I am sure you can pickup a nice CPO '12 or '13 and save yourself some cash.

Trails don't resale for MORE compared to Limiteds, but they KEEP much more of their value because they're desirable and rare compared to the other two models.

If there had been a red TE Premium next to the red SR5 Premium side by side, I would have gone for the TE.

Finding a Red TE Premium at the time seemed like chasing unicorns and there was the SR5 Premium (no third row seating) right there.

The only thing off of the TE that I really wish I had is the rear locker, though for the likely price difference, I can always get one installed myself anyway

I am a medium level off-roader at most really and so the other TE perks would have been mostly academic. I have used the A-TRACK in 4 low (which all versions have I believe) and it is definitely awesome time will tell if I get into a situation where I really need a locker for my level of off-road fun.

Having said that I didn't do enough research before I bought. There was a brand new 2012 SR5 with entune and leather for the same price. I went limited because it came with 20" wheels and looked nicer IMO. Hindsight being what it is I should have gone SR5. Those 20" wheels that I loved so much are useless in real life, the tire selection is nill, and expensive.

When comparing a SR5 premium, and a Limited, are there really any differences besides:

Limited:
-Full Time 4wd with Center Diff
-Xreas Suspension
-20" wheels (That few seem to like)
-Auto Climate

For me, the only reason I would want a Limited over the SR5 would be the center diff, but that isn't worth the extra $10k for me...

Also, there are so many things that make my $35k SR5 look & feel cheap, that carry over to the Limited. I already feel bad at how cheap Toyota was with my $35k vehicle, I couldn't handle dealing with those kinds of things on a $45k vehicle...

traded my 2011 SR5 today for a TE premium

I didn't know there was a Trail model when I bought my first 4runner, so I was a little disappointed when I found out there was some off road options I should and could have had. I had a locking rear diff and skid plates on a taco I used to own and never needed to worry about getting stuck. in fact I couldn't get stuck when I tried! I don't go 4weeling all the time except during hunting season, but there are places I wouldn't go with my SR5. I Just went to look, I really didn't plan on buying but I think I got a good deal. They gave me 28k on my SR5 and I was out the door for 40.5k which was 2k under MSRP. I told them what I wanted which was the silver TE premium with KDSS, They didnt have it on the lot but they found one close by, should have it by Friday.

OP, I would add the Trail "might" have better resale because there are fewer units produced. However, the resale value is among the best in either costume. Do you like the look of the 20's on the limited? Just list each option that is important to you and spouse (independently) and the choice will be clearer.

I found a new 13 limited with everything I wanted except JBL system. I'm happy as a bird. The 4Runner is the best new vehicle I have ever purchased. To be honest, a dressed up SR5 is just as sharp. I'd be curious if you could really tell a difference in ride and handling. A CPO would be great as well. They are all used after you drive them off the lot.
