What suspension kits so you suggest for a 3" lift?

What suspension kits do you suggest for a 3" lift?

Hello everyone!

I've decided that I want to purchase a suspension kit for my 4runner, and I'm looking for about a 3" lift.

So my options seem to be an Old Man Emu suspension kit, toytec ultimate kit, etc.

From personal experience, what would you all recommend. I would not like to spend more than $1200.

Do you have any plans for added weight (bumpers, skids, etc)? If not, I think something like the OME setup would be great. However, if you do decide to add weight down the road, you'll need new coils, and in that case you probably would have been better served with a coilover kit. The coilovers are adjustable, which is a big plus (but comes with a price).

For the OME setup and stock weight, I'd advise getting the Toytec Superflex rear coils. The OME's are over 40% stiffer than stock, a lot of folks don't care for this. The Toytec's are 10% stiffer than stock and will maintain a good ride.

I'm real happy with the OME setup, shocks and springs. Not a fan of mixing and matching. Yes, some people say it's too stiff but I don't find that to be the case at all.

I'm running OME884 Front Coil Springs with OME 90000 shocks and OME895 Rear Coils with 60004 shocks. I do have extra weight with about 150 additional pounds front and back with non-stock bumpers which cost me .25" of the lift.

If you don't want to mix/match, you can try the OME 895E rear coils. I don't know the coil rates on them, but better than the ones I mentioned above. With the v6, you'll want 884's on the front. You *might* consider the 885's, not sure how much weight the skids will add.

The toytec ultimate has adjustable coilovers so you can adjust the lift if you add weight with bud built skids and/or bumpers. It costs more but if you do a lot of offroading, you will want to go this route. If you spend 80%+ of your time on pavement, OME will be more than enough. I got about 3.5"/2.25" with my set up.

I don't know as much about coil overs, but I will mention this. You may want to look at the Radflo kit they sell. It's the same price as the Toytec, not sure if it's "better" or not though. Don't believe it comes with as many accessories (such as swaybar relocate and maybe the adjuster wrench), but worth looking into.

Why do you not like mixing and matching? I have been debating the OME full or 5100 with OME or 5100 with OME front and SAW rear or OME full except rear springs SAW. Any advice? Reasons? Thanks!

Got mine used. Good places are sleeoffroad, wheelersoffroad, or Toytec. Toytec does offer discounts for forum members, I believe there's a thread on here somewhere with that info.

I agree! Just saying, for those who drive their rigs as a DD w/o bumpers and winch, OME is a very reasonable choice for a 3" lift. It provides awesome on/off road ride for a great price.

Yep, it was around $980 with wheel spacers from Toytec. Couldnt be happier, fits my needs perfectly! The ride is a little, and i mean a little rougher but it feels like a truck and thats what i wanted. Im glad i waited and did all the research!
