What to do?

Hey guys I have a 95 4runner 2wd auto. And I want to do some off roading and wondering what I need to do to the truck? I like trail and desert driving so any suggestions welcome

Uh, how much offroading? If you're talking fireroads and such, you're good to go - you don't really need anything in terms of armor or clearance to hit the back roads. On the other hand, if you're talking snow, mud, or rocks/ledges higher than your hubcaps, you might to run into trouble.

You could put a locker in the rear, that would help. You could also, in theory, install a transfer case and front differential. It's been done, though it's not cheap or easy.

My suggestion would be to enjoy what you've got, and if you find you need more, sell it and get a 4wd.

Yup. If off roading is something you want to get into....youll need those front wheels turning.
 
Don't listen to these guys... They don't know what sand is. Since you're next to the sand toy capital of the world (glamis), turn that thing into a huck fest prerunner. Total chaos up front, air bumps and kings in the rear. Maybe a couple more cylinders later on. V8 conversion on a 2wd would be soo much easier not having to deal with the front diff.

I would love to see a 2nd gen aired out with some Mohawks and paddles.

Ok Nevermind, I think I dream big enough for everyone on the forum.

By the way I do thanksgiving at glamis every year. Minus this year being in Korea and all.
 
Oh and kid, sand mountain doesn't count. It's basically one frickin hill, and yes I have been there as well. St. Anthony's is way better. Just clarifying and sayin... :D
 
All that is needed is a good set of tires and a little common sense. Toyota 2wd trucks do great in what ever you put them thru. My first truck was an 80 longbox. It never let me down. Just use your head and you'll do good. And if money isnt a problem I would suggest the total chaos kits too
 
Go hit the sand and you will discover for yourself what you need.
A locker, Some tractor tires for the rear, a front skid plate????
Most of what you need is spirit and balls!
 
I like where your going with ideas GonOvr...Thats what I wanted to do too but depending on where I get into college I might be in Oregon where there is no sand and lots of mountains...And I know how front long travel would work but what would you do for rear suspension?

Were you doing trails or more dezert/prerunner?
 
my 2cents

1.) a wider rear axel 4link the rear and get coilover shocks that are adjustible so you have enough to have 33-35in tires out back.

2.) up front get a long trav a-arm with adj coilovers to have a matching set of tires up front.

3.) enjoy the hell out of it till the motor blows,and replace motor wtih a Iforce v8:biggrin2:.

4.)win a few races and colecet a few of these a the finish line:girl::girl::girl::girl:
