I ended up in a 4Runner after driving an 05 Tacoma Access Cab. Aside from a frame replacement (recall/lawsuit issue) and a repair of the AC system, the truck was essentially flawless the entire time I owned it. I got it back when I was actively racing mountain bikes and needed something to haul around my bike (I dislike roof racks). I have since transitions into backpacking and car-camping in remote areas so it makes more sense to have covered inside storage. When it came time to explore my options for an SUV that was as capable as the Tacoma, the 4Runner was pretty much a no-brainer. I did my due diligence and tested some other options: Jeep GC, Pilot/Passport, Atlas, Pathfinder (can they even call it that with a straight face?), Ascent, etc. Nothing came close to the 4Runner.
So now I have a 2020 MGM TRD Off Road Premium and a burning need to mod and upgrade the hell out of it. I am forcing myself to wait until things start to wear out. Hard to justify replacing perfectly good parts right now. I have a full set of backpacking gear so some basic "overlanding" is an easy evolution to make...at least as soon as the temps drop down to a reasonable level.
