What would you do?

:naughty:A few thousand miles ago I was told I needed rear brakes. Still thinking about it.

Since I'm not planning on descending Black Bear pass or haven't heard any noise I'll keep it on the back burner.
Since my wife drives it daily, I'll just wait until she says something about them, can't get a better guage than that!:lookout:

Boy bummer Rixxer, thats really to bad, 100 bucks a hour ? and I bet they hire on more techs then they need ?

Around these parts west of you I have heard the same deal 100 bucks a hour, techs averaging just a few hours a day,

Well good time to strike out on a side bis, , not the fastest or the slowest, slow down even more Rixxer and you will begin to see,

Not talking to you.

Update:

On Tuesday I met the service manager and he and I measured the brakes. All brakes checked out to be 4mm+ in front and 5mm+ in back on passenger. Drivers side were above these measurements - as expected. The've admitted they were wrong and are embarassed. They've refunded the 60$ oil change service and other dealer 25$ bake inspection fee. And as predicted put a record in the tech's personnel file. They also claimed nobody in the shop is incented to do needless repairs. Right....

They also left some vague promise out there to help with my timing belt/service in 2000 miles.

I'm not convinced they fixed their problem and now open for ideas on the right thing to do from a social media/next steps perspective.

Ideas? Thoughts?

$100/hour is on the low side for shop rates in the north east. Most places are above that.

Oh Crap

Son of a *****, Rix, they tossed him under the bus, Yep called that one,
So You know tech Jockey its good that you followed up on it, Now you got a free oil change, and refunded the brake inspection fee, Cool,
But your right, your a master of the obvious, not sure what you can do, They just pulled the stupid card, but Toyota techs are not stupid, Just look @ Rix, sharp as a tack,

If there was no incentive #1 the tech would not even had looked @ the brakes,
Follow up on that, My BS radar is going off on that one, but you know maybee just let it slide, the dealership stepped up, admitted error, and made it right with you,
All that needs to happen is a few more folks like yourself to step up and all of this crap will stop in a big hurry,

As far as the posts on this thread saying to grow up and just go to a different shop, No, You did the right thing,
But questionable upsells are common place in the trade, always good to get a 2nd opinion
Now Tech jockey, I have found a even more das****ly act pulled by Toyota Sales, they have educated the techs to identify factory type grease as a failure, I to would like to expose this, and am looking for Ideas, Now on this on the tech will not get a write up, but the sales team,
So Boy dont really know what you can do, I have em dead to rights on this grease deal but they have a formidable wall I cant seem to crack,

"The've admitted they were wrong" Should be singular here if its just the tech, no they about it, so that tells me "They" the service writer is in on it, they get a cut as well you know,
They ? the tech has a mouse in his pocket, or a devil on his shoulder telling him to "Upsell" in the form of a service writer,, write up that SOB as well I say

LOL, only a sucker would believe that. Trust me, the Service Manager will say anything he needs to say in order to make the customer happy. Did he really put a record in the tech's file? Of course he didn't... but if it makes the customer happy, he'll say it every time.

There is definitely that possibility as well, you bet, sure he got wrote up,

Tech jockey there you go, go back and ask for a copy of that write up, if you bug em more maybee you will get that timming belt job @ half price,

ask for a copy of the write up, because what doc mentions is a definite possibility,,
You see they are all on the same "Team" the Techs, Writers, Managers, and they will dance you around in circles ,
Get the write up,

But all the same, yep the tech gets the "Write up" I sure wish there was a Toyota tech around here with some guts, and say enough is enough, Rix ???

Even if there was the remote possibility that the tech did get written up, there's no way in hell that a customer could get a copy of it. Sorry, but that just doesn't happen ever. Any employee's performance records are between him and his employer, not the customer.

"Privacy Act"

Well then there you go, "Privacy Act" the little weasels will hide, So how do you get them,

Its what I call the wall of BS, well, anyways still maybee ask , did he get wrote up ?

How bout this, make the tech stand out in frt of the dealership wearing a sign that says "I am a Thief" and or a "Dip****" how bout that ?

It's not hiding...it's just the way thing work in the business world. If you have a problematic employee, you deal with it in a respectful manner. Providing a customer with a copy of a write-up is not respectful and is a very poor business practice.

Do you think techs ever make honest mistakes? Are you always perfect in everything you do? In the real world, people make mistakes. If you can prove those mistakes were intentional, that's one thing...but an honest mistake that is not intentional is another thing entirely.

The techs intention was to have the brakes replaced. He wrote "brakes are bad, rec replace."

This was not an act of omission or error.

Unfortunately, there are those people out there.
Both in dealerships and independents.

This is why I stressed the fact that measuring us THE way to go.
An accurate and repeatable measurement is the best practice.

So what? It's just a recommendation. You (the vehicle owner) have the choice of accepting or declining his recommendation. Some people will replace brake pads before they get down to 25%, for example. Same goes for tires. I don't wait until my tires reach the legal limit (to pass inspection) of 2/32" before I replace them.

AND.... when it all boils down, it was either a mistake or intended deception.

As a customer, you have every right to be shown what's going on. All you gotta do is ask.
If they won't show you.... then I'd be looking elsewhere for service.

Again, "rec replace" means RECOMMEND REPLACEMENT.

Why is that so difficult to understand? A recommendation is just that--a recommendation. It's not a requirement. The vehicle owner has the power to accept or reject any recommendation.

But not the Tech, The tech has to follow the recommendation of Toyota sales,

What are you talking about? Toyota Sales has nothing at all to do with the Service Department. They are two separate entities that happen to exist in a common building. Sales doesn't run Service! LOL

Oh Yes they do,

What are you talking about? Toyota Sales has nothing at all to do with the Service Department. They are two separate entities that happen to exist in a common building. Sales doesn't run Service! LOL

Oh boy now thats where it gets funny Doc, No no no, Toyota sales has there fingers in the service,

Write the books, educate the techs, and make the recommendations,

There role is to supervise dealer Marketing, the Service dept is part of that, actually more than the actual sales,
Sure the sales sell the cars, but when they are standing around, waiting for the next cust, the Service dept, is paying the bills, keeping the lights on and the coffee hot,

Service dept is a huge, part of dealer marketing, It is the back bone,

Do not kid yourself, this is how it works @ all dealerships,, And Toyota motor Sales Supervises this,

@ the Top of the food chain, and Rixxer is the Grease Monkey @ the bottom making it all happen, And as in the case in this thread when its all said and done Rixxer , **** rolls down hill, and the BS given to you by Toyota sales, will wind up on your plate,

You will have to pull your "Stupid Card"
