whats the difference with "GL" and "SAE" in gear oil

whats the difference with "GL" and "SAE" in diff oil

Changing the oil in my diffs, bought some SAE 75w90 Synthetic AMS oil. I read on this forum you should have the "GL" in the oil, but it doesnt say that anywhere on the bottles i have. Am i still good? whats the diff-erence??

SAE stands for Society of Automotive Engineers, and they're the ones that set the standards for automotive oils. GL just means Gear Lube, and tells you the oil is intended for a gearbox or diff as opposed to a motor.

Any 75w90 should work fine in your diffs, unless you have a limited slip.
