What's theLimited under hood liner/insulation made of?

Thinking about adding an under hood liner from a Limited to my Trail Edition hood but am curious about the construction and material used. I'm sure there will by water getting past the hood scoop. Will this soak into the liner? If so, I would be concerned about the liner becoming soaked and sagging under the hood, and possible rust issues due to the presence of moisture in the liner.

I believe this was discussed in a recent thread with the conclusion that the TE hood scoop is not a true hood scoop and should not have a problem with water if you add the liner.

For those of you guys that have a TE could you check something? Granted I don't look too often, but the few times I finished washing the hood and proceed to pop it up, it seems like a tiny bit of water drips through where the hood scoop is. I don't know if it's my imagination or it's just not 100% sealed?

I have the hood .

I always wipe down under the hood when I wash and NEVER have I seen any water drops or dried up spots there.

Hmmm, now I am curious. Ironically it's pouring rain outside right now and I can't even check. I wonder if something on the scoop is installed wrong or it's all my imagination.

Na, same thing with the 4th gens and Tacos, the hood scoop is non-functional, but isn't really weather sealed completely.

I'm pretty sure it is a combination of synthetic and man made fibers (mostly synthetic) compressed into a molded sheet. The little bit of moisture from the hood scoop would not be any different than the moisture getting under the hood from driving in the rain or even high humidity at night. I have witnessed hoods with liners being outside for years and the liners look OK. I would do it if I were so inclined without worry.

I was thinking of doing the same but also was considering aftermarket sound deadener. How much does the Toyota liner cost? I noticed some moisture under the scoop but very, very little. Thanks

I think you did this mod right? Could I ask you what perceivable difference if anything were there? It seems like it's more for noise insulation than heat protection right?

I believe you are correct, definitely not on the TE hoods. As far as other insulation in the Limited goes, visibly speaking I think that might be it, but under the panels, I really couldn't tell you. Maybe you can go to the dealer and do some thorough inspecting and report back

It looks to be made from some type of compressed synthetic insulation with a black felt like covering on the underside, it's ~3/16" thick. I have used the pressure washer at the DIY car was on mine probably 30-40 times to clean mud etc off of it and it's no worse for the wear so I don't think you'll have any issues with it if it gets wet.

There aren't any differences to the underside of the hood of the SR5/Limited compared to the Trail. The reinforcement panel is the same. You'll need the liner and the 10 large head panel trim retainers.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it also helps suppress an engine fire due to its material.
