Yea.. Its a joke dude. I only mentioned it because a lot of people aren’t aware of anything other than pulley/belt or sprocket/chain. Each system has its advantages and disadvantages and neither is truly better, it just depends on application and customer requirements.

I was an engineer at Cummins for 5 years. I also own a ‘93 D250 with 6BT. Sounds like that 6.5 Detroit Diesel is a hunk of junk if you have to replace the entire timing assembly every 100k.


The article really isn’t meant to be a true head to head so much as a “here are some interesting things about these legendary engines”… but thanks for sharing your point of view.

I worked on the ISB, ISL, ISX turbos (Heavy Duty Inline 6 engines from 6.7L to 15L at the time). I do know some of the engineers who were on the Nissan project. It was a disaster from the get go. As always, there are many sides to the story and I can assure you the “geniuses” who did the design work weren’t to blame.

Remember the rollover Explorer/Firestone issue that Firestone took the blame for? Guess what, it was Fords fault. They couldn’t pass handling tests, so what did they do? They recommended tire pressure well below what Firestone instructed. This is all documented now, but general public will always only associate the issue as a Bridgestone/Firestone screw up.

It was a joke, but...

I'm more annoyed by morons doing 10 under in the left lane, big trucks that "pass" another truck because they can do 1mph faster and take 5 miles to finally accomplish the pass while holding up traffic, those unable to make a decision at an intersection, and the inability to discern between what to do at a yield sign versus a stop sign.
