What's your MPG with a 3" lift on a V8?

What kind of MPG are you guys getting with a 3" lift on a V8?

I'm about to get a Toytec 3" Ultimate Lift Kit, Spidertraxx 1.25" wheel spacers, and probably some 265-70R17 or 275-70R17 BFG A/T KOs and want to know what gas mileage some of you are getting.

That is about what I'm getting on the highway without a lift! Maybe the lift will HELP my mileage.

I live in the SF Bay Area, so I drive up hills alot, and there is a stoplight every half block. When I had my 3" lift and 265/70/17s I was averaging 12.5mpg. The V8 AWD of the Sport Edition, combined with wind resistance of the lift, and larger heavier tires took a huge toll. Now that I'm only levelled in the front with the same 265/70s im getting 16+ mpg average.

I've never calculated it exactly, but according to the lie-o-meter I was getting combined city and highway about 18.4 before the lift, then about 17.1 after the 3" lift and addition of 33" tires. I have since added a Volant CAI which has got me back to around 17.7 MPG's. Keep in mind my speedo and ODO are off by a couple percent now due to the larger tires. I attribute more of the MPG loss to the larger tires than the aerodynamics of the 4Runner with the lift.

I'm guessing none of these numbers are going to be accurate considering anybody with a lift SHOULD have larger tires which will lower your odometer readings. Unless everybody posting had a speedo calibration done?

These numbers seem to good almost. Were you getting better mileage before your set up?
I barely crack 19.0 mpg highway, everything stock with easy driving for a v8.
Although i get a little better city 15mpg.

I completed a 7k mile trip this summer in my 03 V8 4x4 with 2.5 lift and bfg all terrains. I averaged 16.88 over the whole trip with 300 lbs luggage and one passenger. This was every type driving you can imagine, 80 mph in texas, back roads in Mississippi and Georgia, many mountains out west, a week of rural driving in Ohio and everything in between. This was hand calculated using gps miles. Before the lift and tires I would get around 18.5 on the same type trip.

Your tire is about 6.5% larger than stock.
Your lie-ometer and speedometer are thinking you're going slower than you are.
Saying you get 17.7MPG means it's really 18.85 according to the lie-ometer.

18.85 with a V8, 3" lift and 285/70's just isn't happening.
You need to fill your tank til it stops on its own, reset your trip meter and drive until it needs filling again. Refill at the same pump. Take trip meter miles, multiply by 1.065, then divide by gallons used to refill.

With what you've provided it gives people a general idea that there mileage with most modest lifts and tires will take nearly a 9% hit in MPG.
Totally inline with expectations considering increased drag by having more air flowing and being trapped under the chassis/front end plow, along with a tire that has increased rolling resistance and weight.

That sounds pretty accurate. I guesstimate a ~2mpg loss with lift and tires.

So are we going to get some rain here in Havasu or not? :thumb3:

3" lift
1" body lift
295/65/18 duratracs
V8 4WD w/ TRD catback & S/C

I have a 3" lift and 33" MT/R Wrangler Kevlar, the tires weigh about 80lbs (just rubber)

I get about 13MPG average. On freeway if I keep it at 55... I get 18 if I go 65-70 I get about 17

In the city alone I get a wonderful 8-9MPG

We recently got the wife a 4Runner so she can tow my 2WD Tacoma out when I get stuck. :lmao: I used to off-road alot in my old 4Runner, but I traded it in on my Tacoma. Kinda miss having the ability to power the front wheels when needed.

I have been on almost every trail in the area. If you ever want to go on a ride let me know, just pick a place. That includes the California side. I know a lot of scenic places but 4x4 is generally required. When you look at my profile it has my sons date of birth. He got me started on this forum. I am 56 and retired so I can go any time. My wife rides along a lot also.
