WRONG.

The TRD superchargers (and almost any other S/C out there) are equipped with bypass valves. At low rpms, they release pressure inside the supercharger or something and practically eliminate any drive line resistance the supercharger may cause.

Not sure how they work, but they work.



OP, don't listen to these skeptics, armor and superchargers dont hurt mpgs that much. You just need a tune up.
I just drove 600 miles in the last 4 days and averaged 22.1 mpg with my supercharger, 33's, bumper & Sliders, and full of gear.

WRONG BUDDY!!

I've run both and you need to do your research before you dunk-post again. Bypass Valve or not, the sc impeller causes drag just like the AC compressor does. Whether you are in boost or not, you need to spin those blades. A sc consumes hp but delivers so much more when in boost, net net you get more hp. If I recall correctly, it consumes 80 hp to make a net 120hp. Simple math, you build an extra 200hp but only get 120hp in the process.

Conversely, a turbo uses wasted energy from the exhaust. It causes a slight back pressure but no parasitic drag like the sc does.

Think about it. Why are so many cars in Europe turbocharged? Fuel efficiency.

I was referring to the part where you said S/C hurts your mpg..
Everyone knows that turbos are more efficient, but apparently you didn't know that all forced induction increases efficiency.

WFT are you talking about. You really are arrogant. If you drive two trucks exactly the same way and one is NA and the other is driving a SC the mpg will not be the same. Sorry, physics applies equally to all of us. Even you.

You're right it does.. to bad you dont understand how it works. Everyone I know with superchargers gets way better mileage than NA engines.
 
It's all about how fast u hit the pedal and how far down you press it

Old roots style are crap but new tech has brought it up to at least modern times

Eaton says that u should only lose ~1 mpg while out of boost
90% of cars run rich out of the factory for safety reasons ie alt from sea level to octane being used

My fathers PAS truck still gets 17mpg on the hwy and runs 13's
 
I got 21-22 mpg highway that was driving from san gabriel to las vegas. Could've hit 300 miles to the tank if i pushed it. City I get about 16 this is with new oxygen sensor sea foamed new wires and plugs cleaned throttle body and mas air flow sensor and deckplate with air raid filter.

Absolutely correct. It comes down to tuning. Map out the fuel delivery for a more lean/efficient tune and you can get back some of the parasitic loss. But simply installing a sc will cause a loss of mpg unless you tune it correctly. So back to my point, the sc can be a source of poor mpg.

Check your exhaust pipe for black carbon residue. If you are too rich, that's an easy way to quickly check. Something is dramatically wrong if you are getting only 11 mpg whatever your setup. Probably better to be too rich than too lean.
 
I get ~18 MPG with 305/70s on stock 16x7s (with 2" spacers up front ~5lbs)
MPG calculated by: (ODO Reading/.9328)/Gallons used where .9328= difference from stock tire size
 
18 city, about 21/22 highway.

Yes, I'm serious. LOL For some reason the last few vehicles I've gotten are freaking fanTAStic on mileage. My 2004 F150 4.6L V8 gets about 19/20 as well - and I KNOW that's not normally the case with others who own the same vehicle.
 
Doesn't sound that far off to me.
I am only getting about 13mpg city and at best 18-19mpg hwy.
Have smaller tires (255-75R17) no winch, lighter bumpers, no TC.

Have done everything I can think of to get an extra mpg to no avail.
These 3.4L are just not all that good in the MPG dept, not compared to newer 6 cylinders.
If we could buy a 3rd Gen with a 2012 V6 in it you would probably get 28mpg.

These are very reliable engines though, just a gas hog.

I would love to have a 3rd gen with a V6 Turbo Diesel & Plug in Electric that gives you 100miles per charge before the TD takes over.
 
14-17 MPG Stock

I'm running all stock and see 14-17MPG combined city/freeway. I compute with every fill up and the best I've ever recorded was 18.2MPG on a drive to the other side of the state. My next project is putting in new plugs and wires (after a seafoam treatment) to see if I can get anything better.
 
I get 16-17mpg doing 70/30 City/highway mix.

35's, supercharger, armor, stock gears, 5 speed.

I have gotten 20+ doing all highway. Superchargers CAN decrease mileage but it all depends on how you drive it.

This weekend I got 16mpg from mostly beach driving and sitting idle for a couple of hours on the way home (hwy 60 mph) I got 22
 
How exactly would you find out how much your getting. mines not terrible, Of course depends on how I drive but I feel up in a bout a week with 285/75/16 and 3 inch lift

Here is one way to calculate your mileage ...

Download the application FuelLog onto your Android / iPhone.

Fill up your tank till it clicks.
Drive 100 miles.
Refill your tank till it clicks.

Calculate 100 miles driven divided by X number of gallons put in.

Basically 100 / X = MPG.


Today I had to drive to Riverside and calculated that on the way there + some city driving I averaged 16.8 MPG. Filled up the tank and then headed back to San Diego. Then on the way back I stuck strictly to 70 MPH on cruise control. I averaged 19.4 MPG on the way back.

My tires are only 31.4" so no need to adjust.
