Wheel bearing hub assembly recommendations

Ok, I have searched a little on this topic and haven't been able to find much info or opinions so thought I'd just make a post to see what you all have to say.

I think my front driver side bearing is on it's way out and trying to figure out the best and most cost effect route to go. What appears to make sense is to get a pre-pressed hub and bearing assembly. That being said, as usual OE Toyota is extremely pricey.

So to get to the point, does anyone here have experience with any of the following?

Beck Arnley
Dorman
DURAGO

If so, any recommendations?

Also, I'm a little curious, when looking at the Beck Arnley site the one image of the hub has the same number on it as the Dorman part number... are they one in the same?

I was very pleased with the quality of the unit.

Also watch several videos on how to get the old one off. One shows a guy with a BIG hammer saying to "beat that b**ch like she owes you money. It was funny.

I then proceded to remove the old one and ened up with a BIG hammer wailing on it to get it off.

I replaced both of my fronts from another member (might be on the tacoma forum) that sells preassembled hubs. Great quality and simple replacement. After much research there were many that recommended these and had a good experience.

Ended up going with Dorman on my rig as I needed it right away. Otherwise, I'd have gone with Jersey Built.

I bought the cheapest I could find (TRQ ~$120) because I was in a pinch and I have no regrets. 20k miles so far and no issues. Plus, it was so crazy easy to do I could probably replace them again in 20min. I'm still in shock that some shops wanted $800 just for install. Youtube is awesome.

Marion uses Jap bearings (confirmed) but could take a few weeks to get it. Well worth the wait if you have the time.

Koyo bearings are knockoff chinese bearings if they come from ebay or any online merchant. Knowing that all parts from all online vendors are likely to be fake chinese junk, I just get the cheapest ebay parts and press them together myself. When it fails, I have another one already handy to bolt on.

There are no OEM quality parts available online unless they come from a USA Toyota dealer, period. I learned this the hard way. No matter what any online seller says, they definitely do NOT have a direct account with Koyo or are able to get Japanese manufactured bearings and sell them for any sort of profit. The company I used to work for owns Koyo and I called them to ask who the US distributors of their product are. Unsurprisingly, no discount online sellers were on that very short list. Don't be fooled by Koyo packaging or part numbers, a huge percentage of "authentic" bearings are just chinese crap in very well copied packaging designed to fool you into thinking that it is real. It isn't.

Hmm... Napa carries the Koyo bearings. Are you saying they carry the fake ones, or are you just saying the online vendors?

Probably not Napa, as they could be sued for fraud from JTEKT. An easy way to tell is to get a price for a product from one of the listed distributors and see if the online people are selling you a "koyo" for less than they can buy it for. If someone is selling a $60 bearing for $20, that usually is a dead giveaway that its fake.

I was very happy with bluepit bearings. Pricy at $279 but fast fast shipping and the assembly was perfect. Bearings were marked Koyo and at that price they damn well better be.

So I would say that the Napa Koyo bearing are most likely genuine Koyo, unfortunately Napa doesn't sell the complete assembly with a Koyo bearing, but they do have their "Napa Solution" series complete assembly which has a limited lifetime warranty for little less than just the Koyo bearing.

Gotcha, that makes sense. I can’t remember the exact price quote, but I believe that the Koyo bearing assembly alone (no hub) was around $76 per side, which was about double the cost of the generic Chinese ones they had, so I didn’t even question the authenticity of them at the time. I plan to buy just the bearings since I have a press, and have built many similar assemblies in the past. I’ll probably reuse my hubs also since I wish to press in longer studs while they are apart, and I’ve never seen that offered from any of the prebuilt options anyway. Unless someone has a bent hub from impact, or ones that are badly rusted, I don’t see the necessity in wasting money on new hubs if you have access to a press, or someone can help you that does.

Good to know about those lifetime warranty assemblies. They may be a very viable option for those looking for a bolt on assembly and need them quicker than most of the mail order places can turn them around. Maybe I’m misremembering the price I got at the parts counter, but I could’ve sworn the lady quoted me around $76 per bearing, not $179. Maybe the list price isn’t the same as the discount they sometimes offer regular customers like myself? I guess if your info above is correct, and I can really get them for what she quoted, I better just grab them and put them on the shelf for now! I was planning to just buy them in the spring since it’s too cold here to do that kind of work this time of year, and mine aren’t a problem (yet).

The lower price bearings from Napa are about the orice of what you posted but see my post just above your post to see what I saw the price for the Koyo bearing was on Napa's website, and you will also see that you can get the Koyo bearing cheaper from at least one Toyota dealer, but defintely not $76 from either Napa or Toyota.

Sorry I see we were posting at the same time, but yes if you can get her to sell the Koyos for that price you better act fast!

Do not use Marion. I purchased a set from them less than two years ago and one has failed. They will not return my calls or emails. Sad that they are not trust worthy. I even tried to contact them via the forum, but they are ignoring me. I gave them every opportunity to make this right. Now I am shopping for a new set.
