I'm thinkin about gettin some 15x8 Mickey Thompson Classic Lock Offroad Wheels and a 3-4'' lift, and I was wondering what the biggest wheels I could get that would not be tooo loud.

Thanks

What year 4runner do you have??

Please fill out your signature so that we know what vehicle you drive. I saw your other post. You have a 4th gen 4runner SE, right? If so, then you canNOT go with 15" rims. The rims will NOT clear your brake calipers.

I havent got it yet, I'm seeing which one I should buy. I'm either goin with the SE or the SR5. Probably the SR5 so I can put a lift on it easily. I'm getting it within the next month so I'm doin' a little research.

Good...you're doing research! With any 4th gen 4runners, 15 in. rims will not fit.

Are you single?? If so, then have you consider the FJ Cruiser?

yea but I love the 4runner. Its either a 4runner or a 350z and you cant go rock crawling in a z haha. What would recoment for wheel sizes/widths if I want huuuge tires. I want really big tires but nothing above 37 or 38. Theres people I know who have 42'' wheels and 10'' lifts on their trucks(real trucks)...though everyone of them has flipped their truck...

You better do more research........

And you frankly are interested in the wrong vehicle (IFS is limited in lift). If you want to really lift the 4runner, then you will have to spend BIG BIG bucks!! Do a search for TOTAL CHAOS and Goodtimes. Even then, i am not even sure you can fit 35" tires.

Don't forget that there is currently no gearing sets for 4runners which you would need to run bigger tires.

IMHO, do what your friends are doing, get a vehicle with solid front and rear axles and do the lifts & tires. I would recommend the American trucks or Jeep Wranglers.

Hmmm, i would bet that the Z does not sound so bad afterall...

Well Burtman Industries have a 3'' in front and 2'' lift in the back that is compatible with the Xreas and can easily acccompany a 33'' tire so that would probably the be the best thing.

Believe what you want after you have done your resaerch but honestly the people here are giving you sound advice.

No 33" tire will fit easily on the 4th gen. You will have to make some modifications to the fender wells to fit them. Actually you'll hva esome other troubles too but you really need to do a comprehensive search.

I have run a Sport with 275x70x17's and they just fit with approx 2.5" of lift in front and 2"" in rear from a spacer lift. They just fit - and I mean JUST.

I think you might be better off with an earlier model Runner or trucks like you mates if you want +33".

Don't get me wrong 33" are doable (so is anything really) but it won't be easy. (Well I guess "easy" is a relative term). You have to consider the available spacer between your A arms, chassis frame rail, and fender restrictions. Also consider what happens when the suspension is fully compressed and extended if you are intending to offroad at all.

As Thai accurately said, IFS has its limits. You can squeeze more height by going to modded arms like Total Chaos (nice!) and a body lift but your not talking anywhere near the range of 37".

Given that you were thinking about 15" wheels, i think you have a lot of reaserch yet to do. It's all here.

Cheers
Mark

If I had to buy a 4Runner now, I'd get a 4WD V8 SR5 with side airbags.

Lift with Donahoe/OME. Replace the upper control arms.

Due to the Tacoma and FJ having 16" wheels, there will be a lot of wheel options available for the SR5. The Sport must have 17" wheels. Also more tires in 16".

Before purchasing your 4runner, take into consideration what your ultimate goal is.

1. what is your purpose in purchasing the 4runner?
2. what do you want to do?
3. how exteme do you want to go?
4. are you looking at speed stuff? (thinking high speed baja style)
5. are you looking at slow speed? (thinking rock crawling)
6. are you looking at expedition style?
7. how much can you afford (all of these cool modifications aren't cheap by any standard. even the cheapest lift setup + tires will put you in the 1500 minimum)
8. are you concerned about warranty?
9. can you do a lot of the work on your own? this will be important as the more you can do the better prepared you'll be when things breakdown (it happens)

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Depending on what your style is going to be, the modifications will vary and the vehicle you ultimately purchase will vary as well. Sometimes just gettin ghet XREAS is a great idea or even the rear air bags so give us some light on what your vision is we'll hopefully be able to give you some better indications on what factory accessories should be included in your initial purchase.

Good luck in your future purchase of the 4runner!

Well it would have to serve as a daily driver, but also be able to take it through mud pits and occasionally rock crawling. Nothing fast really. Most likely I'd get the Total Chaos front suspension, like good times has, and maybe mimic the rear suspension. I understand that everything costs money, and I'm willing to spend money to protect my car.

Perfect.

With that said, I'd say if you want to do the moderate route here's your best bet:

1. sr5 or ltd 4x4 (v6 or v8) avoid the xreas on the se (pita to work around when adding stuff)
2. get some sliders
3. get some lift (OME - moderate)
4. wheels and tires (if you get sr5 grade then you can fit 16's otherwise you're stuck w/ 17's - more $$ and limited tire selection)
5. off you go on the trails!

More expensive route:
1. same
2. same
3. coilovers in the front - saw or donahoe (both are great)
4. ome rears
5. same

you will notice that I have recommended sliders prior to any other upgrade. the key is for you to get out and play now which means getting basic protection. sliders are an invaluable mod that I feel is far more important than any other mod available. it's worth every penny (lots of vendors to choose from).

I did leave out UCA's which are available (several vendors) intentionally as they are only needed if you start tearing up your stock ball joints. The more you play the more wear and tear you'll experience so this is on a case by case needed item. I've left out some other smaller mods that you can do on the way but this is the gist of it.

other than that, go get your new dd / toy and good luck!

Well I'm pretty sure I want the SR5 and not the SE. Thankyou everyone for the advice, since im a noob. Is Hanna making sliders for the '06? And why does the Total Chaos only come with the front suspension?

Thanks

Last I heard Hanna is not making any sliders for the 06. (Not sure exactly, please contact the shop directly for more info).

As for Total Chaos, they make 2 big products for the 4th gen 4runner.
1. upper control arms
2. long travel kit (which is very expensive).

the long travel kit is more traditionally used in high speed application but there are individuals (like myself) that uses it for both high speed and slow speed stuff. the kit itself is very expensive (upwards of over $5000+) so keep that in mind. This only covers the front and you will have to work on your own rear. This is not a traditional lift setup.

OME and other products are more traditional lift setups. Give it a good search on the various lift suggestions to get a better understanding of each technology available. (http://www.chaosedition.com/tech.asp) you can read up on various lift technologies here if you want or just search on this site and others as it's well covered.

good luck

On Chaosfab's website it said the long travel only increased the size by 4'' but like wheel travel was 15"??? Also I was lookin around the forum and a guy put 31.8'' wheels on his 4r unlifted. Would I be able to accompany 33 or 34'' with a 3inch lift and 16'' wheels, since the other guy basically put 32'' wheels on w/o a lift? 1 more thing, which is the best quality lifts that I can take through mud pits and go rock crawling and not worry about it, but at the same time put coilovers in the front?

Don't you need to specify your lift height when you order sliders? Or is that only if you did a body lift and not a true suspension lift? I wanted to get sliders first, too, but I plan on doing like the OME suspension in the future and would hate to have to re-do the sliders after the lift.
