Wheel / Tire - Help Needed

All,

I have a stock 2014 T4R SR5 with the 17x7.5 stock wheels. I recently purchased a set of Stealth Custom Series SR8 Matte Jet Black wheels that are 17x8.5. Can anyone tell me exactly what (if anything) I'll need to purchase to get these installed correctly and safely? My plan is to use the original stock tires that came on the T4R and to leave the suspension stock as well. Are there any potential issues I need to be aware of?

Thanks!

Nice choice on wheels. There shouldn't be any issues, just get a mount and balance at a reputable shop and you should be good to go.

Thanks for the response. I took the wheels to a local NTB to have the work done. I explained to the person (asst manager) helping me how particular I am about my vehicle and the new wheels. I told him to take whatever steps needed to not blemish the wheels. He assured me there would be no issues.

Fast forward a couple hours, when I picked up my T4R. It was sitting out front, looking awesome. Before I even went in, I walked over to admire how sharp it looked. Upon a closer look, I found three of the four wheels had been damaged during installation. Needless to say, I was not happy. I'm now in a holding pattern, waiting for him to speak to the higher ups about what they can do to "make things right"???

To be continued......

They should buy you new rims...not even a question asked. That should be a given

I completely agree. The asst manager talked about possibly "refinishing" the wheels, which isn't even an option in my opinion. These wheels had 0 miles on them and are damaged. I'm hoping to find something out tomorrow and that this doesn't turn into a :bash:

I am still going through this with my new 2015 TE, took it in with 210mi to get some KO2's. They scratched all four of the rims, it has been over a month but I am finally getting some of the new FN TRD style rims out of it this week. Honestly, it is their bad, make them make it right. If they insist on refinishing them let them know up front that your are going to insist on nothing less than perfection, they know it is a dumb idea to throw money at something you wont be ok with. If you have to, go to small claims court.

I hope they make this "right" for you. I went through this before and it wasn't fun. Can you take pics of the damage done to the wheels?

Did you pay by credit card? If so, I would call the company and immediately reverse the charges.

Thanks for all the responses.

Here's the update:

I was told by the asst. manager that he would be in touch with me in a day or two and let me know how we would be moving forward (that was last Monday). To date, I haven't received a call. I called twice and was told he was off until today and still haven't heard a word from him. My patience is exhausted at this point and if I wasn't out of town, I'd be in their showroom "rattling cages" and making a scene. Very disappointed at this point and I'm not sure what my demands are going to be at this point!

More to come....:director:

Ehh, I'd be careful doing that, that's bordering on fraud and your credit card company probably isn't going to be too happy when they find out the real story.

I'd continue to pursue it with management.

When the find out the real story??? Tell them the real story yourself. You paid to have 4 tires / wheels mounted with no damage to your wheels and that is not what you got. Why would that even come close to fraud?

The only options that they should be offering is new replacements, maybe a store credit for some new rubber.

I had the same thing happen to me at discount tire where they scratched two of my brand new rims. The Assist. Manager ordered two new rims for me. I ended up buying the two scratched ones as well for spares at a significantly discounted price. Your wheels may get scratches down the road, but I am in agreement that when you take rims in for mounting, you should get them back without damage. If the local store won't do anything, may try calling NTB headquarters and tell them what happened. Those kind of things should be covered by their general liability insurance.

Because you got what you paid for and the damage is secondary.

This should be addressed through the company itself. Revoking the charge is a slippery slope and the cc company probably isn't going to sustain it. Their job isn't to mediate disputes between you and a vendor.

Actually that is exactly their job! And the goal is not to sustain it, rather to use as leverage to get someone's attention. If the corporate office gets a charge reversal from a CC company, you can sure bet that it will be handled seriously. That is why you always pay by credit card. there is a little thing called the Fair Credit Billing Act of 1975 that provides these protections to consumers.

"In general, paying by credit card gives consumers an advantage in the game. That's because consumers may enlist their credit card issuers to help mediate or resolve disputes. A dispute right may potentially be available if the cardholder can document and support with corroborating documentation, a mischaracterization of the described goods or services or dispute concerning the established quality of goods or services provided to the cardholder," MasterCard spokeswoman Joanne Trout.

What to do at this point- first off you need to decide what your damaged are, that's the most you can recover.
You do a stop pay on you CC for the cost of the mount and balance and they will consider it payed in full and that's all you'll get.
Work with the company in good faith to get this resolved and I believe you will come out whole in the end. Sometimes making a scene may work against you, but sometimes it will work.
Good luck

The manager initially offered to "wipe out my bill". However, I told him that I wasn't trying to get something for nothing and that I would pay the bill. I just wanted the wheel issue resolved. He said he wouldn't accept payment from me until we got things resolved. Here we are a week tomorrow and I still haven't gotten a phone call from him. I'll be visiting the shop when the doors open tomorrow!

Ok, I know it's been a while, but here's the update....

I went into the shop Monday morning, when the doors opened and spoke to the asst manager about how we were going to resolve this issue. He started the conversation off by saying "this is what we're going to do....we're going to send all 3 wheels to a local body shop to be refinished". Needless to say, that didn't sit well with me. We went back and forth a couple times and he became more "brazen" and tried to intimidate me into refinishing the wheels. I told him I wanted the contact information for the district manager (which he gave me). I called the district manager, explained exactly what happened and he said "that wasn't acceptable". He told me they would make things right and that he would contact me in the next few days. After several exchanges and nearly 5 weeks, a check for the FULL amount of my wheels, lug nuts and shipping costs arrived in my mail box. While this took a while to resolve and I had to "climb the corporate ladder", I got the desired result. While I won't do business with the asst manager I originally dealt with, I will do business with the company again!
