Wheel & tire rigamerol...

I want black wheels on my 2013 4R TE...The vehicle is only a month old, so I want to wear the tires out before replacing them.

I really want to powder coat the stock wheels black, but the logistics of doing so are just too much of a pain in the arse in Rochester, NY.

So, my plan has shifted to purchasing some aftermarket wheels and being done with it. Questions;

1. If I get aftermarket wheels, I will probably get the same size as the stock wheels, so my stock tires fit and everything is happy like it is now.
Is there a size/offset (16" versus 17", etc.) that will lend itself better to larger tires or some "trick combo" later down the road?

2. What black aftermarket wheels fit and look good? (I really don't l like fake bead-locks, if you're going to do it, keep it real).

3. What about Toyota factory steel wheels, like my spare has...can I get a set of those for temporary and how much will they cost? Is there any center-cap that fits the steel wheels.

4. Anything else I should be concerned with?

I have MB72 black wheels. They look great, no fake bead lock, no unnecessary styling.

You can make back a lot of your money by selling your current stock wheel/tire combo, especially if they're new. Put them up here, craigslist, wherever.

I don't think its cheesy at all. I would say about 90% of this forum has had their wheels plastidipped. It's durable and retains the finish of your original wheels. I love the factory TE wheels, honestly out of the 5 sets of wheels I've owned, the black TE's were one of my favorites.

Who has had plasti-dip on their wheels for a year or 2 ?
I heard a few guys saying that it scratches easily and then the scratches become peeling spots.

It really depends on how many coats you do. I've seen a plastidipped wheel rub up against a massive boulder and not even phase it. If it rubs off, just respray it, costs like $5 for a can lol.

I've had my door handles dipped for about a year, and I'm suprised they're still holding up with how tight the trails are here in Missouri. I have some hardcore pinstripping on both sides, but the handles look great lol. We'll see how it really holds up when I dip the whole rig.

If you're using plastidip, all you need to do is clean the rims, make sure you get all the brake dust off and you're good to go. First coat, do a light coat. I would do 4-5 on each wheel after that. Let them dry over night.
