When can we hit the Rubicon? Going camping this Friday

I'm dying to see this place. Looks like the toughest/most beautiful terrain I've seen. We're looking to do another cold weather camping trip this Friday so I suggested the Rubicon. :noidea:

I have been all around this area since December and it's of course packed in snow/ice above 6000ft. It's been 80deg down here at 1200ft so I was wondering if it's too early to attempt to even hit the base of the trail at Loon Lake? It's 91mi or 3hrs from my place. When will the trail be passable?

Anyone up for a camping trip/trail ride on 29 Mar?

so is Loon Lake doable or should we just try for Bowman again?

That's in the mountains, man. Depending on how hard the winter was, the Rubicon may not be passable until June or July.

Dumpped the Rubicon idea. Had my hopes up with the recent warm weather. I will be attempting Bowman Lake on Friday. We make it as far as we can then camp out in the snow. :driving::AK47::hungry::cheers::smow:

We only made it about half way last time since we got on the trail kinda late. Meeting in Penn Valley/Grass Valeey area Friday morning around 10:00. Puts us on the trail by noon with 7hrs of light to get to the lake.

Trail looks beautiful. Where exactly does it begin? Cant seem to find the inlet?

Were starting off of HWY 20 in the small town of Washington.

Just got back from our trip to Bowman Lake. It was me Stokes and Rob. This was our second attempt to make it to the lake. The trail was pretty clear for the most part besides the soupy snow patches. It was still a couple feet deep toward the top and gave us a welcome challenge. I was able put the new front locker to use blazing a trail over the last hill top. It was worth ever penny. Thing is like a tank now. I love it!

We hit Gaston Rd in Washington around noon and pressed North East. We found the snow after we turned onto Meadow Lake Rd. The views were awesome and the trail was fun. It won't be any challenge once the snow is melted. Bowman lake is beautiful. The water is crystal clear and there's plenty of camp sites.

Looks like you all had a great time. I just love all that area around there to the point when I go, just can't just go for an over night. Got to have a long extended weekend.

Great pictures there, and gives me an idea of the snow line for end of April, beginning May.
