When I unlock my 4runner can just the lights blink?

I have an 03 4runner sport. As you know, when I unlock my truck with the keyless remote the lights blink and the horn honks.

Is there a way I change this so when I unlock it, just the lights blink?

I believe your dealer should be able to do that.. I'm guessing they installed an "aftermarket" alarm that fits in with the factory keyless entry so just go to the dealer and tell them that you prefer your alarm to "silent arm" and in that way it'll only beep and flash the turn signals. :

If the sound really is your horn, then you probably have an alarm system installed and you'll have to go back to whoever installed it to have the setting changed. If the sound comes from the left front fender then there's a piezo electric cell there that's making the sound and you can just unplug it.

Instructions are below, I copied them from a thread that was active about 6 months ago. I did this mod several years ago and haven't regretted it for a second.

Find the source of the noise under the hood, directly down from the d/s hood shock. There is a wire going inside the wheel well. Pry the black plastic ring out, then press the black dot (lack of a better description) next to the hole.
This will pop the noise maker from its mounting and allow the thing to be pulled out and then be removed from the wire harness that it is plugged into.
No more beeps, the lights still flash...........

Just tear the piezo thing out like spyne suggested. I did it several years ago and am still glad it's gone.

p.s. It's on the right side near the wheel well.

If you bought in Texas, then you have Gulf States as the wholesaler. They offer a security system upgrade that is not the Toyota RS32000 system. It has a way for you to stop the horn, but not the chirp.

First, you have to determine if that's what you have installed. Check the original purchase for something like "security system upgrade" on the list. It uses the Toyota key fob. You'll have a red LED and button on the left on the steering wheel -- the LED is the one that flashes when the system is armed, and it is mounted in a button.

There are separate instructions that you have. IIRC, you have the red button to the left of the steering wheel in the out position, then move the key from Off to On to Off, then push the button in and out 3 full times (3 in, 3 out) within 10 seconds.

Mine was too, I meant when you are standing at the front of the truck looking into the engine area, at that point it will be on your right (driver's side).

Same place, just trying to say which side when you're looking at it from under the hood.

Thanks for the help with this. It took me a little while to get to it, but these instructions worked perfectly. Now no horn and no chirp when I lock and unlock my car.
