When will the Bilstein 6112 be released?

The shocks are CAD plated bodies and should stay looking nice for years. Obliviously if water is allowed to sit on them a light surface pitting may develop, but this is easily cleaned off.

Tech tip - if you want them to stay shiny looking and nice and for a little extra protection you can wax them with a standard heavy duty automotive wax. Many shock brands suggest this, and we do it on our customers race trucks to prevent pitting.

This is from FOX Shocks:

FOX shock bodies and reservoirs are plated with zinc and clear coat. Before installing, and then several times a year, we suggest that you wax your shock bodies with a non-abrasive automotive wax. This will keep your shocks looking new for years to come.

We like Trailwax heavy duty 4x4 wax.

Billy shock bodies corroding isn't anything new. When I pulled my 5100s off of my tundra after 6 months they looked like garbage. Didnt affect the performance but they looked like they had been under the truck through 10 snow storms.

They used to use a zinc coating, but have switched to CAD plating in the last year or so. It seems to be much more durable.

I received the 6112/5160 combo with the billet brackets. I'll be going with a #3 ring for a 2" front lift and 2" Icon spring rear. I'll be honest, I have not seen a bad lift on any of the pics yet. I may put it in tomorrow.

I was a tad bit nervous with threads stating more lift than expected in the rear 5160 and SAW coils. I called Bilstein and they had a good observation... the 1.5" SAWs include the weight of the third row in their calculations and gives closer to 2" with no third row. The tech I talked to said they even pulled a meeting of all the techs to discuss. Then he said, there should be no additional lift with the 5160. He also agreed the 2" Icons match the 5160s really well.

We shall seeee.

My truck will have a 90lb lab, a layer of dog hair, biking and fishing tackle plus camping gear running several Colorado trails so, I really a bit higher rear to handle additional weight.

Time to get them install now. =)
I assume, you went with the 2" Icons.
Have you consider getting shock boots for the front?

I posted this in the Total Automotive vendor thread by accident...

The 6112's are installed in the front at the third C clip setting for ~2" lift on a 2015 T4R Trail. The rear 5160's are installed with the Icon 2" springs. Tires are Nitto Terra Grappler G2's. I'd say I came right in at 2".

Before After Lift
L Front 34.5 36.5 2.0"
L Rear 37.0 39.0* 2.0"
R Front 35.0 36.5 2.0"
R Rear 36.75 39.0* 2.0"

(Actually, 39 1/8" but i rounded...)

Notes:
I'm amazed that the side to side "lean" disappeared after the lift. Saker noted similar equality between the sides.
No lift noted from the 5160s, only the springs. My dog is in the back and it came out 2 inches exactly. Now, he needs to jump a tad bit higher...

The mechanic said the Alignment came in perfect. (i do not have the sheet)

It's raining in Colorado today so everything is wet. All I have are dirty pics...

We took it for a drive up High Grade Road. Yes, it's pouring out... a real good test. Driving has a much improved feel. Tracking, bumps are indeed handled better (the driver alert bumps kinda melt away). IMHO, this is how the 4Runner should be stock. Yeah, suspensions are subjective and definitely wont say this is the best thing since sliced bread sprinkled with unicorn dust but, really... I do like. :guitar3::guitar3:

Not too easy to wax a shock body when wrapped inside a coil spring!

Galvanizing, or cad plate, when covered with clear coat should remain rust free for a good long time! Unless the snap ring grooves are cut after plating and finishing.

BTW, CSix .. your truck looks great!!

Thanks!

The Icon springs really feel good with the 5160's I need a lot more miles but I like how it feels all ready.

Oh, the whole suspension got muddy on the first test ride. It's been raining really heavy here in Colorado. Guess that's the way to break it in...

I notice that with the SAW coils that it does flex quite a bit just when I lean on back with my weight. Im about to add between 100 - 150lbs in the cargo area and will see how much that affects my lift. May have to look at some stiffer coils like OME springs to maintain my 2" lift.

After shoveling SNOW... (here in Colorado)

This is just an fyi to all that put on the billet clamp for the 5160's.

I did not like the way Toyota installed the reservoir clamp so I thought I'd just check... it was loose! There are two bolts. One was barely tight and the other was finger loose. I'd recommend to use Saker's comment about a thread locker on the clamp.

Regarding the rust from puddling in the upturned 5160 reservoir.. I just looked at mine, and the plating ends on the O.D. of the res .. i.e. bare steel, possibly clear coated on the I.D. where the rust has been turning up. Thinking of mounting my res with the banjo on the top, as CSix did, and still doing something to protect inside the recess..

BTW, who has the best price on the Bilstein billet clamps?

I very well might do the same!

Still looking locally for the caps though.

Here is my current reservoir placement. It went through quite a bit of snow today. This is the Drivers side and the reservoir is forward in front of the shock. The braided line is several inches away from the tire.
