When will the Bilstein 6112 be released?

My understanding is that the 7 groove design is pretty much the only change and it has no impact on total lift available. IOW, instead of four grooves spaced 1/2" apart, they spaced them 1/4" apart (filled in the three gaps between the 1/2" grooves). The issue was that 1/2" was too much of a lift to trim out driver's side lean and people were still needing to use a 1/4" spacer. Now people can just drop the DS one notch (1/4") lower than the PS and avoid having to use a spacer on top. If you did that with the old 1/2" notches you'd end up with lean to the PS.

A 1/4" spacer gives 1/2" correction height on top of the coil assembly.

Saker,

What clip do you think would yield the same amount of lift as your current set-up with the new spacing? 4th or 5th?

Also, if I already have a passenger side lean, wouldn't having the 6112 on a lower clip on that side exacerbate the issue? I would think it would need to be even or up a clip from the driver side, not the other way around.

I would "guess", 4th on the passenger side, 5th on the drivers side.
Your answer is yes...you would need to compensate that lean by having the clip in the next higher groove as described in my above sentence.

Also, I am making and educated/uneducated guess about exactly which circlip groove you should place them in.
The best way to find out is if someone has both generation 6112 shocks and can compare locations of the grooves.
Mine are set at the middle (3rd) groove from the bottom.

It is possible that TotalAutomotivePerformance may have them in stock, maybe they can assist you in that.

Wish I could help you further.

I mainly was hoping you might share my thought process. It looks like (assuming TAP has them in stock and can deliver this week) I'll be one of the first ones to experiment with it since I've already placed the order, so it's just a matter of when for me.
TotalAutomotiveLV, can y'all shed any light on this?

Thanks!

is anyone running heavier and maybe longer springs on the 6112?

IIRC the Eibach springs are 600# but unsure of the length, I am looking to run a king 14" 650lb spring on my 6112s because the springs it came with are not cutting it with an additional SSS bumper and winch, approx 150 extra lbs up front....

i am on 4th circlip and would rather beef the springs than go to the tallest perch and not get the desired raise.

Also with the king spring i would probably set the circlip back down at the first groove right? (i have the original 6112s not this fancy new 7 groove design)

Trying to figure out how a new spring would play out with the circlip setting and the increased weight rating. Please assist if possible.

:hippie:

Interested in this, too! Going to be adding a similar setup with the @c4fabrication low profile front bumper and winch. It should add about 120 lbs to the front end and I have the same setup, settings as you. Did you ever get this sorted out?

I'm going to run a 700# king 14x3" spring on my 4th gen when I get around to finishing the bumper and installing it. With just the bumper alone, you can feel the sag in the front end driving around my property. I'll report back on my findings.

to both of you i never was able to get this sorted. There is def sag in front with the winch (~65lbs), SS hybrid bumpr (~70lbs), and full skids pulling down the springs that came with the 6112s. I am also about to add a second battery and need to beef up the springs but am between the 650 and 700# king springs. I am having a hard time determining between those two to be honest. Because i want to buy the correct set and be done for a while but have never had to select springs by weight before. i've spoken with weeeee on here and he said go with the 650, but im still not sure. you guys have a good way to figure out which set to get?

Go weigh your truck. Bonus if you find a place like setup for race cars that can do each corner. Call king with those numbers and they will sell you the correct springs, rather than guess.

Personally I feel that 650s is about the max I'd go on these. First, 700lbs is a lot heavier than the original 550lb springs on the Bilsteins, and the valving will not match. I'm currently running 700lb springs on my Kings (I know, not exactly an apples to apples comparison), but even with full armor/skids, winch, Odyssey battery, and the RTT I am at barely enough preload to use them properly. I am currently maxxed out on my preload collar w/ 700lb springs and cannot go any lower. If I was still running a sway bar I'd run the 650s.

Not sure if King will help beyond giving you the right part # for your application.

Each shock manufacturer specs out their springs differently according to their shock valving. For example, King ships with 550LB springs, Icon ships with 650LB springs. The Bilstein ships with a 14" 3" ID spring, 550LB s/r if I recall correctly. Can't recall the exact methodology around this number, but usually 650-700LB is the sweet spot for a rig with full armor/winch/etc like HerT4R is running.

I haven't dealt with king before. However, I have with Fox and they need this info to spec out springs. But maybe with these style coilovers it is generic as you say. I came the world of sxs's and it is not cookie cutter when you go with aftermarket coilovers as each corner is weighed and then tenders, secondary and mains are spec'd out for your rigs weight and valuing is changed to match the new spring weights as well.

But again maybe the coilovers people are putting on these rigs are not as custom as I'm used to.

I know they should be for what they are getting for them. $1000 per corner should have tuned and custom to your setup.

Am I over thinking this? I don't plan to go that far with my rig but I assume if your paying for kings, foxes, icon or walker evans you should have the options I did.....

Yes and no. Specific to this question, we're seeing what spring rate will best handle the added weight on the 5160s. Bilstein does not custom make shocks or setups for the 4Runner, so the best alternative is running the 650-700lb springs which are proven to work.

If you were running an LT kit or even a specific King build, they could assist more. But with the Bilstein spring setup I'm sure their answer will be the same as mine.

Gotcha. Thanks for the explanation. :thumb:

The 6112 ships with a 600 lb spring.

I'll have a steel full plate bumper and Warn M8 winch with steel cable on it. The 700's may be a little much for the 6112's but I'll see how it is for a while and adjust accordingly whether it's different springs or upgrading to Icon or Kings.

This question comes at the perfect time for me as I'm going through a similar situation.

I'm about to install a 150lbs bumper, 75lbs winch, and have on about 50 lbs from a set of aluminum skids. Called Bilstein and they weren't able to help out, said there was no option for a heavier spring and the shocks weren't tuned for anything but the coils it comes with. Also said they wouldn't support or warranty anything if paired with another spring.

Super bummed about the pocketbook hit but ended up looking at the adjustable Icons with the 700lbs springs. Better Customer service and alot more options, should have gone this direction from the beginning.

For those looking into King coils, would that be a simple coilover rebuild with the new springs? I assume we're rolling the dice on the warranty and hoping the valving will hold up? I ask because I wanted the same thing and not have to fork out another $1300 for coilovers.

It sounds like the consensus here is that the 6112/spring combination are not a good match for bumper + winch. Is that right?

I purchased the 6112 before i decided to get a SSO slimline bumper plus winch.

Now i definitely don't want to install if it's still going to sag. Anyone have any good alternatives? ToyTec boss 2.5 looks nice.

Posted this in your sponsor section but wanted to ask here too...

What are your current recommendations for the rear with 5160's still on stock delay for those who do not want a rebuildable shock? I know the icon 2.0's are valved similarly but are there other options?

Edit: TotalAutomotiveLV thanks for answering at the other post in your vendors section!
