This picture is from Utah...seriously...who in the F in their right mind writes horseshit like this on a rock in public lands. This is EXACTLY why people want to shut us out and shut down trails

Pretty sickening trend....remember 5th genners....don't deface public property...I hope the law catches these asshats and make them clean it off, and dispenses heavy fines.

Here is the thread over on Mud.... http://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/utah-trail-graffiti.942801/#post-10506428

shouldn't be had to find since he left his social media account as evidence for those who could potentially prosecute him for this... I believe this falls under the epic fail category, haha

Pretty Sure one of them is a member here, granted any one in a group of travelers can do the deed.

I don't understand modern societies need to share everything about their lives or leave a "mark", no Facebook, no instagram, don't snap chat...The photos I post on this forum are the most "social media" I got. Although I do appreciate certain forum members with their photo skills sharing adventures to encourage others to "get out there"

Ex: 4th July fireworks, sitting on the lawn with friends enjoying the show.....throughout the show 1/2 dozen folks pull along side the road in their cars, cell phones either out the window or looking through the windshield (some while still idling forward....) snap photos/videos for a couple minutes and then drive away. WTH folks, enjoy the moment in the moment not through a screen.

LEO should clean it off and then send the bill (at government contractor rates of course) to the owners.:spy:

Now im not condoning what they did, I wouldnt do that myself, but isnt it chalk or something? If they carved it in then thats retarded, but if it is chalk then I dont see the big deal.

Man this topic is everywhere I look...

Obviously a stupid and selfish act.....

but the reaction is sometimes worse than the original act. These people have gotten death threats.....

The environment will take care of itself folks, think about the real impact here... using a little common sense on both sides would help a bunch.

We all get caught up in the moment an do stupid things from time to time. The environment can heal itself.. people sometimes don't heal so well.

So to those that did this... yep stupid move, but I don't judge you for it. I've done many stupid things in my life and at least you were out living life instead of sitting behind a keyboard, which I'm sadly doing right now ;-(

I'm sure you regret doing it and won't ever do something like it again. Hold your head up high.... one mistake does not make you....

I seriously don't think most people understand how hard people take this internet bullying thing. It really gets them down....

Again, the environment is resilient to stuff like this folks..... If I had to guess, most of it looks like permanent marker, which is probably mostly gone by now.

Just remember... No trace. Easy rule.

and that's why internet policing (if not bullying) is such a touchy subject. 99% of people calling this out would not have said ANYTHING if they had been there. A highly publicized example can certainly help to prevent future incidents but as you said the "level" of offense and just as important how its handled by the offenders must be taken into consideration.

Sorry...I'm not so willing to brush it off as a dumb move...stupid?.....how about ignorant, selfish, childish, and downright retarded. I put this right up there with the other *******s that deface and destroy (insert looting, tagging, etc.)other peoples property. Absolutely no excuse, period.

They certainly don't deserve a death threat...but according to their own admittance...they used sharpie. I hope there's hefty fines involved, and reimbursement for cleaning and restoration costs.

This is why we can't have anything nice....

10000X this. I was at that very spot in May for only the second time in my life and told my dad who was with me that right now it may be my favorite spot anywhere. The scenery is great and the 4wheeling to get there is fun too. Then someone shows up and treats it like a whiteboard.

The environment may be resilient, but try telling that to eco nuts who will use this very picture as ammo to close trails.

ugh, this will get you shot at in Montana.

What I really find ironic is the most damage Ive seen caused has always come from "Conservationists" and anti-offroad type people. And the EPA, they always are jacking up our land.

Regardless who does it and how long it lasts, it would be nice to try to limit it, if for no other reason than the pleasure of going somewhere as beautiful and undisturbed as possible.

If you're old enough to have a driver's license you should be smart enough (and have enough common sense) to know that this is incredibly stupid and childish.

Crazy times we live in where defacing our National Parks is considered "living" and anyone who dares judge people for their "mistakes" are the real monsters.
