Trek 316 –Jessup-Copper Queen-Ragged Top-Gold Ore and broken water jug-19 September 2016
Set out to cover some old ground plus a bit of exploring off of old ground. Turned off at the quarry/Jessup exit; then around the quarry and a brief stop at Upper Jessup.
There are still a few building remnants but the old car has been hauled off. Don’t know if it was the BLM or somebody that collects pieces. Matter of fact a couple of stripped house trailers are also gone.
Then headed towards “Hard to Find Mine’ and “Copper Queen Mine”. I didn’t find the HTF – didn’t look too hard. The Copper Queen is easy to find and I did. A couple miles beyond there is some kind of development of 40 acre parcels. Elegant signs but pretty crappy land. One group/family has a couple really crappy old trailers and broken down trucks-No water, no power, no nothing.
On I went until I hit the NVEnergy high pressure gas line and followed it to the top of Ragged Top Peak Took a few pictures there.
Headed back west until I could connect to a wash track that would return me to “The Gold Ore Claims”.
I did a bit of hiking around there and found a couple of mine shafts I hadn’t seen before. Then I came down the canyon towards civilization and stopped to get a sandwich out of the back. Whoop!; My 6 ½ gallon water jug is almost empty and the rear carpet is totally soaked! Emptied everything out of the back dumped the rest of the water and continued home. Now the truck is sitting in the drive with all the windows down, the rear door opened and sunshine and a breeze taking care of things.

That jug has actually lasted pretty good = 12 years of bouncing around in the back of three vehicles during 316 off-road treks. OH: In northern Nevada during the summer a shovel, axe and 5 gallons of water ARE REQUIRED along with normal survival and recovery gear. Now gotta’ get a new jug.
