Where can I get an A/C button for 4Runner ?

Hi everybody,
The A/C button broke off, and well, I was also sharp enough to lose it. In any case, I need to get a new one, because that button was broken.

I could not find an actual "official" name in the Chilton book for this part.
I'm referring to the rectangular button which has “A/C” printed on it, and a small part of it lights up in green when the button is pushed, in order to turn the A/C on.

I looked up online and could find a part to buy, the only option left is to stop by at a dealers' location? Or, did I miss something in my search ?

ha! i knew i couldn't have been the only one with an A/C button that fell apart! the stealership has them for reasonable price also around 30$ if i remember right from like 2 years ago....

Mine was falling off for years. I was placing it back using different odd methods, each time, and it would hold for a while.. untill it stopped holding.
This time, I cannot find it between the seats or anywhere on the floor...
 
my issue was the cover plate kept falling off, first super-glue worked fr awhile, then one of the side clips broke, then the other, once both where gone it couldn't be glued no more. I wonder who made this crappy little button?
 
I know that everything is relative, when it comes to "is it much work ?".
So I'll ask anyway:
I see that the part# ships the whole assembly, so I assume that some of the inside stereo area trim needs to be removed, in order to replace the old assembly with the new one. Is it a long and painstaking job, for someone with basic mechanical skills, who's never dont it before ?
 
changing out a/c button thing

No need to take off any part of the dash. take a needle nose plier, and grab ahold of the edge of the square where the green light is (where the a/c button used to be) and gently wiggle and pull. It's a long piece in there. the new one goes right in and plugs itself at the back when its pushed all the way. very easy for anyone
 
i need one of these too if super glue wont work to hold it in. the button itself is falling out on mine.
 
save the AC button's light bulb

For all reading this, I'd like to add a thought: if or when you replace that AC button save the light bulb/socket from the broken switch. Those small grain of wheat bulb & sockets are used elsewhere - I found one in the emergency flasher switch on a '97 - and they're not sold separately, at least not by Toyota.

Okay, that's good news. Yes, it's been a while and I still did not replace the unit from fearing the whole console disassemble process. Will get to it later on and report back.

Hey Srandel you are a real gem. Thank you very much for the advice. I did exactly as you said, and it worked out perfectly. Very easy. You remove the broken button and pull on the old assembly, with some needle nose pliers. At the edge of the broken part near the green bulb. The new part goes in like a plug into a wall socket, so simple. In fact I just created an account here to say Thanks! Was searching for how to solve this problem on Google, and this thread popped up, on one of the results. No need to deal with a Bodyshop now. Got the part from Ebay and installed it myself. Once again very much appreciated.

Power to the people! I get a little sad whenever I hear of people spending 100's of dollars to repair parts that are a simple as "remove old part, put new one in".

That's what is great about these forums, the collective knowledge is quite extensive.
 
Ain't that the truth. I'm sure that the $17 dollars+Free Shipping that I paid for the part, from Ebay, was much cheaper than dealing with a Bodyshop lol. Found the numerical part code and was golden.

Does anyone have the pinout to these?

Hi, I know it's an old thread.. my 2000 sr5 4runner A/C button broke off, seems I'm not alone.

I've ordered TWO different replacements.. my old button is marked 158086 and both new buttons are labelled 2911017. Every place I've found indicates these are the same.

However, both new switches instantly blow the 10A A/C fuse when plugged in!

I've determined that my original 158086 causes the two center pins in the row of 4 to be connected when the button is pressed, but both replacements cause two pins on the end to be connected when the button is pressed, so they are different!

Knock-off replacements are $10. Toyota now wants $50+ ($55 for me due to 10% tax in Taxifornia). Any thoughts? Sympathy? Suggestions?? One guy told me he'd refund me and I did not need to return the switch. Maybe I hack that one up - but I need the pinout (or just continue reverse-engineering the one with the broken button).
 
So, what actual Toyota PNs did you purchase?

TheDurk posted the right PN for a '99, which should also match your '00.

I had one explode on mine 5-ish years ago, and it was an easy plug-n-play replacement.
