Where did it start? What was your first Vehicle?

I decided to start this thread after I saw 4Ripcord's S4. It reminded me of my first wheels, its the same colour--- where my interest in vehicles started. In High School I bought a 1962 Pontiac Acadian (same as a Chevy II/Nova) 2dr hardtop. Over a period of 6 mo. I rebuilt it from the ground up and the only part I didnt rebuild myself, was the Tranny. Anyways, tell me about your first vehicle!!!

My Ford epiphany came after I owned a 84' LTD wagon, purchased shortly before my first son was born! It stranded us in the parking lot of the doctors office, after his first visit as a new-born!
I did so much to that pile of scrap--- first and last car I gave up on! Sorry I've no pics--- I probably burned them shortly after I unloaded it.... but here is an image of the same model:

Believe it or not, my buddy drove a Tempo to work right up until, about 6yrs ago, it died after meeting a deer on the highway...

My Acadian cost me $750 in 1980, I sold it for $2600 after putting about $1k into it, as I needed something better on gas for College...I bought 76' VW Rabbit....but that's another story!

The first vehicle I ever drove for a while was a 1991 Honda Accord, but technically my first vehicle that was really mine was a 1987 Toyota pickup, SR5 xtra-cab 4WD

This isn't how it looked when I first bought it, but it's how it looked when I regretfully sold it :ybrick:

The first car I ever owned was my 68 Firebird. I bought this car from the original owner for $1000.00 in 1985. I was a junior in high school and saved up the money working for my uncle's landscaping company.

I kept the car for 29 years. Over the years it saw a wide variety of color and engine combo's. Until about 7-8 years ago when I took it off the road for a complete resto. I took the car down to bare metal and cut out any and all rusted areas. Then painted it it's original factory color of Verdoro Green with it's factory white vinyl top. The motor was a rebuilt 428 pushing out just over 450HP which was hooked to a Muncie 4 speed that ran back to a 12 bolt posi rear with 3:73 gears. The car was an absolute beast and got a ton of attention at local cruises and shows.

In July of this year I had it at a local show and an older gentleman approached me asking if the car was for sale. I had been asked that question numerous times over the last 29 years and had always answered no but just before that I mentioned to my wife that after owning the same car for 29 years I was considering a change. The guy asked at the right time and I said to the guy that I would consider selling if he was serious and had cash. Turns out he was both and I sold him the car for a LOT of money.

Right after selling the Firebird, my buddies girlfriend's brother in law decided to sell his recently restored Camaro so I bought his Camaro.

With my Acadian, I originally wanted a 66 or 67 hardtop but couldn't find one under a grand (1980)! Wow, hanging on to a car for 29yrs, THAT is enthusiasm! Good luck with that Camaro!

Now that was a beautifully restored Toyota Pickup!! Awesome. Looks to me you've regretted selling it! If I remember, the X-tra cab wasnt that common---- I really like the look of 'em! Looks like you put a lot of love into it!

A lot of guys had Civic'S as their first and some wrote'em off! You hit a tree at 70!!!! You must have been bloody lucky! A buddy in High school rolled his Civic and broke his arm and collar bone--- which was lucky because it rolled twice-- with 2 other passengers!!

My first vehicle I wanted was a Jeep CJ7 but ended up with a 78' International Scout 2 and also ended up with a 79' model as well .............many a good times in those 2 tanks ! My buddies always wanted to double date with me and their girl ....... it could go almost anywhere it wanted to within reason and had a big back seat !

It's a 72 and it's a real documented Z/28. It's NOT stock though. It just came out of a 5 year restoration. It has a 454 that's pushing out over 450HP, a Tremec TKO600 5 speed trans and a 12 bolt posi rear with 3:73 gears. It also has tubular upper and lower control arms, front and rear sway bars, 17" Torque Thrust wheels with Nitto tires, working ice cold A/C, and a killer paint job.

I'm loving it...

first car was a '67 beetle. had it for few years, and retired it when it was time to patch the patches on the rockers all the way around.

in the springtime, used to take the front passenger seat out, and replace it with a 50 gallon plastic barrel. why? to collect sap for making maple syrup.

Wow! its a piece of art! Right there in my favor era! I'm jealous! In the last pic, my favorite is your Camaro, I like the red 64' Nova beside you and the Gold Camaro... 68' I'm guessing...
You must have trouble keeping the tires on the road with that 454, despite the pos and gears... and suspension mods.... short of driving like Grandma...!
Where I live is retirement country for Western Canada, due to the great weather--- I get to see lots of Winter garage queens like yours (not usually as nice!) but the retirees seem to favor Vettes.. You have IT young enough to enjoy it--- lucky man---- I wish I did, but I've got College kids. When these arent an issue, my dream is to get my hands on a 98 Celica, restore it, and drive it across the country--- my Wife and I love the road trips-- We've pretty much crossed Canada, Northern US States and all the Western US States multiple times with the kids-- especially love Utah, Az, Cali. Our next eventual road will be without kids-- we have a yen to see Colorado and NM and points East!
