Where did it start? What was your first Vehicle?

first car was a '67 beetle. had it for few years, and retired it when it was time to patch the patches on the rockers all the way around.

in the springtime, used to take the front passenger seat out, and replace it with a 50 gallon plastic barrel. why? to collect sap for making maple syrup.

Love The Beetle storys! I never hand one but lots of friends did! My dad drove a 57' for years on the Prairies-- in the Winter it was the best--- when it dropped to -40F, as long as he had the block and bat heater on, it would never let him down.
A buddy had one and I remember driving with him when he cranked the wheel hard over and it kept going straight.... right into a metal gate post! I carpooled with another friend for half my College career in one, bundled in Winter jackets with him driving and me wiping the windows!

yes, i used to have to scrape the inside of the windshield in the winter, too. no heat in that car. but it went pretty well in the snow.

really liked lifting the hood to fill the gas tank (i think it was 1970 beetles that first had a fuel door, instead of lifting the hood).

Yup, that always attracted looks... my dad's had no fuel gauge just a floor switch and the battery was under the drivers seat, I believe... my brother and sister sat on the back seat and I curled up in the rear cubby, circa 1970....

I learned from the best! I got my grandma's 86 camry but unfortunately I didn't take care of it. I did learn how reliable Toyota's were from that car. She made it to 256k with very little and I mean little maintenance. She took us off roading and on lots of adventures!

Since then we've owned other crap cars but in the end Toyota took over, now we own 3.

Nothing like Toyota! I learned to drive a std shift on my moms' 1975 Corolla.... In the Winter, that car would go anywhere with my 2 football buddies in the back seat... weight for traction, and when we got stuck, they'd just pick the thing up! I also had my first major car accident in it! I rear-ended a early model jacked up Mustang! you can imagine what happened when the Mustangs' bumper contacted the hood of the Corolla! I'm not sure why they didn't write it off... it was never the same...but it ran for another15yrs-- just not really straight down the road!

I also started with a '67 VW, early Barracuda, early 80's Firebird. Fun rides plus company trucks/vans 24/7.

cool. while i don't miss that old car, i do happen to like the '67 beetle, because it was the last year for the hoop bumper and the first year with the "square" back. it wasn't a bad car to learn to drive with. it certainly wasn't fast and it was cheap to run.

My First - 1966 hardtop mustang with a 6 cylinder and no rear floor boards but the carpet remained -rode like a boat with front end significantly higher than rear -beer cans would float if puddle was to deep

Also had a Toyota Celica 5 speed, can't remember year but a blast to drive

than a 1980 Chevy 6cylinder 3 speed on the column 1/2 ton Love van completely modified for camping trips -great memories with the now wife

1986 sport model Monte Carlo - 1985 GMC Jimmy and now the runner

82 f-150

IT all started with a 82 F-150. She was stock when I bought it. Soon I lost the oil pump in it and it chattered like a power stroke. As any young man would do you have to go bigger and better right. Most would think a 351 upgrade, WRONG!

460 punched 30 over. Mild Comp cam, 429 Cobra Jet heads rebuilt and reworked. I was running a 750 Edelbrock Carb. Had the 9in rear end and 4:11 gears. Needless to say it would flat A## run down the road.

My brother gave me a 76 Chevy "Heavy Half" with a 454 when I was 14. It ran good, but I spent a year replacing body panels and was getting ready for a paintjob when my dad decides he wouldn't help me get tags, insurance or pay for gas in it when I got my license. But he would in a car he thought would be better. So I wound up selling the truck and he foot the bill for an 82 Trans Am. Still not sure about Dad's logic there, but whatever. He paid tags, insurance and gas, so who was I to complain? (To note, I did have to work at his business a few nights a week to earn that, plus a little spending money.)

Although fun to drive, it was the worst vehicle ever for making out in (and believe me, I tried almost everything possible to make it work lol)! :frisky: On second thought, I think that may have been his plan all along... :doh:

98 ZR2 Blazer. White with 31 inch bfg all terrains. Bogged the shit out of her. Started wheeling the day I got it. Wish I could find a picture of her.

Got my mother's hand-me-down '78 Mazda GLC in 1984 & modified the hell out of it.
Then bought a new Chrysler Conquest (same as the Mits. Starion) and LOVED that car. Pretty much ran it into the ground. Late 80's I got a '65 Mustang fastback with the I6 (still have it waiting to be "restored"). Then got a '75 Buick Century as a beater - best $650 I ever spent! Took me everywhere I wanted to go! Replaced that in '94 with an '84 Ford Crown Victoria with 144,000 - took that to 214,000. Ordered a '99 M3 (and still have it). Pathfinder to replace the Crown Vic (horrible dog) and the 4Runner in 2008 to replace that. HUGE difference!

Awesome, a real variety of vehicles... I learned to drive on a 59 Chevy 1/4 PU with a 194 cu in six and a 3 on the tree, on my uncle's farm, at the age of 15. Wow, like driving a tractor with a bench seat!

I think maybe you have! A FREE mini van! Surprised it never broke down, it was a Montana-- 2nd worst mini van ever built.... I owned the worst mini van ever, a Plymouth Voyager!! When I read the first line of your post, I thought maybe you had a band, or something! Free--- can't complain about that!!!!

Great! I agree, what was your dad thinking? Trading a tractor for a race car??? HE got a employee and good for you, you survived the Trans am.... My sister-in-law was given a BRAND NEW 83 Z28 which she totaled, 4 mo. after she got it! She injured herself, luckily not seriously.

My dads Buick Park Avenue was probably the best make-out ride---power, diamond tuffed seats etc!!!

My first was a 1969 Mustang Fastback, paid $500 for it. It was a mess!

My Father and I fixed the rust, rebuilt all the suspension and redid the interior. I was the official "gopher". I had to go for this wrench, go for that socket, go for the welder...lol.

After sending the block for machine work we built the engine and rebuilt the tranny in our basement. That little bored out 302 could really get it!

I miss it- some of the best times I ever spent with my Dad.

Still driving it...my 1991 toyota 4runner! It has its issues now but what do you expect from a 23 year old daily driver. Just rolled 150k miles. Cars have come and gone but this one has always stayed the course.
