Has everyone forgot about the original 4Runners??

I put a 6 inch skyjacker suspension lift and 33" General AT2 rubbers on..headers, full stainless exhaust..

Its GREAT!

plus, i started it up in -40 C yesterday..no block heater

If I knew how to post a pic of my truck..i would..

Welcome to the forum. No we haven't forgotten about the original 4Runner. Looks really nice. A 1st gen. made 4ROTM this year. Maybe yours can be 4ROTM also.

Post more pics as we love pictures. I am putting this thread in the Gallery section. And if you have a question about your model, we have a section called Classics T4rs, which covers both 1st and 2nd generations.

Also, u know how hard it is to find a tailgate in good condition?!

Found one in the scrap yard...whole truck..from somewhere in texas..if anyone out theres missing a blue tailgate painted black..its now metalic grey

I love old school yota's. I love yota's in general, but I got a lotta respect for the old schools. Especially with the solid front axle or converted to. I got 4runner of the month with mine in August. I've had some suspension isues to work out lately, and been taking a while because I'm still a full-time student for another quarter. But their great rigs, and I think their light-weight is centered on the chasis pretty good. I have a friend with a 94 FJ, with a 6" lift and same size tires as me but alot newer, he's locked front and rear, and I'm unlocked and can climb up stuff easier then he can.

Do u think i should go 5.29? cuz right now, i believe i have 4.10 gears (originial) but i need somethin "faster"...also, i dont have a solid front, i have an IFS...much softer...frankly i would love a solid front, but im not in the mood to change mine

I love my 5.29's.... Their supposedly not supposed to last very long due to the small pinion size. But I've had mine for about 3 years now, and I just change out my diff fluids about every other oil change. A little more work but has proved to be good so far. With 5.29's, It runs about 200-500 rpm's higher on the freeway then it did stock. So it's actually a little quicker. I think (before I built the engine) with 35's and 5.29's its 0-60 time is the same if not faster then it was stock. If you don't want to worry about the stripping teeth off your ring gear you could go with 4.88's, but if taken care of 5.29's are great. I don't know if you've checked them out, but www.sky-manufacturing.com are a fast growing,reputable, fab shop outta Oregon, and they sell the straight axle conversion kit for a reasonable price. I'm preparing to do the cross-over/high-steer kit now. I broke a steering arm in the mountains with my kids, it sucked ass, don't want that to happen again.

thats a great looking site, but considering that im in MONTREAL, CANADA...and that i just installed a full suspension lift by skyjacker...the ride is so comfortable that i dont think im going to swap in a solid front...also, that we have height regulations here and im 7 inches over the legal limit..they already stopped me and made me go for an inspection..ever see a jacked up truck driving real slow with some 27 inchers? yea, that was me.

Also, in reply to your changing the diff fluid, im using royal purple synthetic..its amazing! the viscosity and how it just stays on every inch of the diff..

Yeah, the skyjacker lifts are nice, how big is your lift and how much did it cost? My little brother just got an 87 turbo runner, still stock, needs a lift. As far as the gears go, you can put pretty much any ratio in 4cyl or the 6. That royal purple stuff I heard is supposed to be killer. And Washington has height laws too, my front bumper the police tell me is 3-4 inches above the limit.

My suspension lift is 4" in the front, 6" in the rear, i got new leaf springs in the back cuz mine were dead and saging thats why the 6"..with the weight of its ass, it brought it to the right height front and back.

As to the turbo, those kick ass! im looking to convert mine with the original turbo..Now, www.TRDUSA.COM sells superchargers..but not for the 2.4L.. anyway called up my friends at toyota here in mtl, they say they sell the turbo engine complete, as in a crate engine 28000 bucks. so uhhh gotta find a turbo off of some scrapped one.

the regulation height is 27" to the bottom of the door. im now 37"...go figure.

Yeah, I'm kinda bitter, but proud of him at the same time... I wish I coulda picked it up, but he got it. He gotta killer deal, its got 154,000 miles on it, and in pretty good shape and he paid 2400$ for it, I don't think they knew what they had, they didn't make very many turbo 4runners, only a few in 86 and 87. I haven't been on their website for a while, last time I was they didn't have a price, but I'm gonna go check after typing this. www.lcengineering.com sells superchargers for the 2.4 22R and 22RE, plus all kinds of other goodies for the 22R series. I wanted to convert mine to a turbo before I built it, but not only were they spendy you also have to pick up an ECU out of a turbo runner or truck. In a couple years after I can afford it I think I'll supercharge mine. That should put me over 200hp! I'm at about 145-150 now, up from the original 105hp. I bored it .030 over, ported and polished the head, oversized stainless racing valves, gasket matched my intake, RV springs, RV-Crawler cam, moly rings, end I think that's about it. I'm also going to put LC Engineering's stainless Header on it, eventually... Damn that money shortage always getting in the way..... Well I'm gonna go check their site out now...

MMMMMM supercharger for 2.4L!

K man, ur going to get me in serious trouble...im already making a list of stuff to do for next summer...such as, disk brake conversion, SUPERCHARGER and i think im going to go with 4.88 gears...cuz i was spinning my old 27's like crazy when i had to go in for inspection. I dont know if u know about pacesetter..but i got pacesetter headers, and an exhaust originally made for a toyota pick up, that was about 7 inches too long...cut the pipe, attatch it with zip ties...who cares. lol gives a nice sound and seems that the engine loves breathing more.

My father gave me this truck back in 96... it only had 98 000km on it. In any case, now that im talking about all these mods...he's like fine, do whatever to that, just dont touch my blazer.

see...my cousin has it all planned out.

He bought a 2002 altima 3.5 put a stillen supercharger under the hood, lowered it, new headers an cold air an stuff like that.

His wife comes along an says she wants a harley.
if she gets that, she cant complain about his car!

so get ur wife something she can work on...an then she cant complain.

Well, she doesn't/won't have room to complain now and here pretty soon. She just got a 05 Rav4 sport, so right their gives me quite a bit of credit. And a point she likes to bring up is I'm still in school (Toyota Technician Program) so she's pretty much the bread-winner for the time being. But I'll be done in March and start working (hopefully for a Toyota dealership). So when that point comes I figure its fair game to build it some more. I want to put 37" MTR's or another 37" tire soon as mine are ready to replace, they have about 30,000-35,000 miles on them, so it shouldn't be too long.

I have alot of friends at Toyota.. one of them, Dave, has a 92 Pick up with 35" bfgs, 10 inch pro comp suspension and a modified V6..but the Quebec government says that its not roadworthy.

i just bought 8 exhaust manifold nuts for 20 bucks....thats frikin expensive.

I had to replace my sunroof...that cost 500 bucks! but whatever, if it keeps the rain off the women

Yeah, This Spring I'm gonna fab a bikini top for my runner. I love wheeling with the top off, but last summer I spent about 2 hours parked under a tree with a buddy drinking beer, because a freak rain storm came in and I had the kids with me, and speakers, amp, etc... in the back. And while we were sitting their waiting it out, I noticed that it wouldn't be very hard to make a bikini top for it and just keep it in my bag in the back with all my tools and straps, etc...
