When will Gobi make a roof rack for the 2010? About time someone came up with a load bearing rack...

Emailed them a while back with no response..

It took them a while to come out with one for the 3rd Gen. I don't know why it would be any different for the 5th Gen.

Aren't they pretty pricey?

Yeah.. I think they are a little pricey.. but I guess they can be if they offer a rack that will support a good deal of weight compared to the others out there only allowing for a hundred lbs or so... Know of any other options?

Thanks for the heads up on the Baja!! I just checked them out, looks like they did a custom rack for the 3G and 4G 4R, I sent them an email to see about the 5G. We'll see. Looks like they are about $500 and support 300lbs, same load limit as the Gobi and quite a bit less.

Have you looked into ARB? I'd think they'll have something for the 4runner especially since they have those kick ass roof top tents, never hurts to ask.

I am pretty sure the rack I got from Rocky Road Outfitters will support a good deal of weight. It's not spec'd, but I think the limitation would be space, not weight. The limiting factor are the TE stock siderails, but I think those are plenty beefy. At first I didn't like the idea of using the stock siderails, but now I find myself staring at it longingly as I walk off after parking. Needless to say, I think it looks good, aggressive/rugged, and is wicked inexpensive. It has enough room for all of the essentials, though probably not the type you could lounge around on top of.

If you don't have a TE, then forget about it.

I'll have to take some better pictures of the whole ride with the rack. Going to hit some mountain trails this weekend, so I should have some good shots of it then :frog:

I do not agree. You are comparing metal v plastic... But still, I am not willing to test out the strength a 300lb load on the factory rails until I see someone prove. And the Gobi just looks sweet. Hope they build one and cut the price in half!

You mean you disagree with the SR5 rack not being as strong as a TE rack? The TE has a bunch of supports along the rail that the SR5 doesn't have.

If you're talking about the siderails being able to take the 300 lb weight, with how distributed the load would be along the length of the rail, I would not be concerned. However, I don't plan on ever putting anything that heavy up there :D and it would not be a good platform for standing on anyhow.

That Baja rack looks great and isn't too expensive either.

Not to steal this thread but I looked thorugh the parts manual and cant find the part # for the TE Roof Rails...

I was thinking about possibly buying a pair for my SR5 if the price is right. Perhaps some of you TE owners will be selling yours when you buy the Gobi?!?!?

The parts manual has the numbers (pictures below). They are pretty pricey straight out even I am sure you can find them cheaper online. I am sure others will be selling their TE racks once they upgrade. I am Sam is also on the look out.
