Where is the Trac/VSC Wire connector at??

Ok so i have a 2002 limited and me and a friend wanted to have some fun in some snow in a abandoned parking lot but of course the traction control prevented the fun. I wanted to know where the plug is so i can unplug it at the lot do a few donuts and such then plug it back in for the road.


Also is there a procedure in doing this? Does the truck have to be off while unplugging it.

And when you go to plug it back in does the truck have to be off.

Any Steps??

Dude, read the whole thing. No, you can't just unplug the connector.
 
P Nut, actually YES you can just unplug the pressure sensor connector to disable trac/vsc/abs. This is the "poor man's" version of the andymod :D.

Lee use to do that all time when he went wheelin'. He'd pull off the road, get out of the vehicle, pop the hood, pull the plug and then head out on the trail. When finished, he'd have to get back out, pop the hood again and reinstall the connector.

The offical andymod includes installing the switch inline so you don't have to get in and out of your vehicle anytime you want to disable the systems. Lee eventually did the official andymod and installed the switch. (He got tired of unplugging and plugging it back in all the time.)

Mitchc4216, as stated in the write up above, it's real easy to install a switch inline to disable the systems. However, yes you can just unplug the pressure sensor connector at the MC and you're good to go. But if you're like most, you'll get tired of doing it this way and will soon want the in cab switch.

Otherwise, go buy a 1st gen and play in the snow :bigok:

Thanks RockSlide. I have still yet tried unplugging it, I will probably attempt it tomorrow night. So does the vehicle have to be off to unplug the connector? I think it would be the safest thing to do?
 
From what I remember, you can unplug the connector and plug it back in all while the vehicle is running. I flip my switch to disable the systems all the time with the vehicle running. However, don't just take my word for it...read it for yourself in the below thread.

I unplug that fuse in the engine bay all the time. Make sure it's the green one though. I turn my engine off just to be safe, although I doubt it really makes a difference.

Well yesterday I went to any old parking lot after if snowed a bit and covered the ground. Jumped outta the truck popped the hood unplugged the wire got back in and saw that the ABS/Trac/Vsc lights where on when the truck was running which meant of course they are off.


Lets just say there was no snow left in the lot after i left :clap:

RockSlide, I was looking through your 4runner profile and i am very impressed with your 4runner. Its a very nice vehicle and your attention to detail shows it. But i have a few questions. I saw you bought the sound dampening tape and covered all of the floor and bare metal area's. How much did that cost? How much did you use? And how long did it take? I would love to do that to my 4runner.

I purchased 5 rolls @ $19.99ea ($100 total) and used 4 1/2 rolls for the front and rear of the cab, the cargo area and the tailgate. Stuff works great too. I still need to find time to purchase some more and do my doors and roof.

For reference, I used Part Number: 9640T2 in the 6" roll at McCaster-Carr: http://www.mcmaster.com/. (Just do a seach and you'll find it.) It has a very strong adhesive on one side and a reflective aluminum surface on the other.

Time wise, it took me a full 3 day weekend and roughly 4 weeknights to do it remove all the interior, lay the sound deadening and reinstall everything. (I drove around with just a driver's seat installed for 3 of those days :D). I probably could have done the install quicker, but I took my time doing it.
