I just recently replaced the rear coils in my '98 with '99's. The difference between the 20 year old '98's and the new '99's sitting side by side was only a 1/2" which leads me to believe the '99 talls aren't what they used to be. That said... The new coils installed on my rig made a world of difference with weight in the back.
Thanks for the response.... Looking through, the listings for '99 coils on Camelback Toyota, I found three different available part numbers for the rear:
4823135190 - 2WD
4823135200 - 4WD, 15" Wheel
4823135210 - 4WD, 16" Wheel
The front coils are listed as follows:
4813135120 - 4WD, 3.4L, 15"Wheel, Right
4813135290 - 4WD, 3.4L, 15"Wheel, Left
4813135350 - 4WD, 3.4L, 16"Wheel, Left
4813135400 - 4WD, 3.4L, 16"Wheel, Right
As I understand, the differing listing numbers across the front coils is intentional to allot for driver weight.
Naturally I would have assumed that the best available option would be the 4WD, 16", but now I'm wondering, did they put the taller coils on the 15" wheels to make up for that loss of an inch?????
My '98 sits level and perhaps a little taller than I would have expected stock as it is, I wouldn't expect a huge difference going to the '99 coils, if noticeable at all (which I'm fine with), BUT.... I have noticed that the nameplate inside the door lists 15" wheels, and it's currently fitted with 16's. Leads me to believe that
maybe the coils have already been replaced.
But the shocks are all but blown, doesn't make sense that the PO would have changed out the coils and not replace the shocks at the same time. Either way I plan to do Absalom's Daily Driver/Weekend Warrior - Trail Bias (minus the 1/2" lift)
Absalom's Cookie Cutter 4runner Builds
....Just a little stumped on this '99 TALL coils debacle.
