Where to mount a GMRS radio?

I've got a midland MTX275 radio (all the controls are on the mic) that I had mounted to the passenger side of the center console, so the coax and power cord ran down under the passenger side floor mat. It worked, but it takes up a ton of space, looks like crap, and I wanted to declutter the interior a little.

I'm considering trying to find a place under the passenger seat, but there's not a ton of room with the rear heater.

Anyone got any clever ideas for mounting this thing out of sight?

Under the driver seat?

I have an AnyTone AT-779UV in mine, but you need access to it. I took out the ashtray and fit it in there.

I have the same model and mounted to the passenger side of the center console too, but closer to the floor/foot area.

With the controls on the mic you can put the rest anywhere. There should be plenty of space under the steering wheel area, and if you want it may actually fit under the side of the center console. (I have some other things in those places, otherwise i would likely do the same.

Just unplug the receiver and store under seat if not in regular use

My old clunker so old and ugly.

Would probably mount the radio under the seat and controller somewhere usuable up front in a nicer vehicle.

But I like mine just fine where I put it along with the MIC hanger.

I'm considering replacing the Kenwood with an IC7000 to have HF too. It will probably go in the same spot.

And I have to say how much nicer the GMRS radios are compared to the CB's we were using before. They had lousy range, horrible sound quality, and just seemed to generally be more prone to various flaky problems.

This is where my CB and GMRS were mounted until about a week ago. It works great, but there are power and coax cables and mics all over the place, and I wanted to hang a nalgene water bottle holder off the side of the console.

You aren't kidding about GMRS being better. I just need to get my redneck friends to give up on their 30 year old walmart CB radios and join me in the 20th century.

I used zip ties so that I could return to stock without damage. Zip ties are not visible, good n snug.

I mounted my Anytone in the same spot.

I trimmed the ashtray opening with a Dremel and used the bracket that came with the radio, bolting that to the console bezel in a similar spot to where the ashtray screws to.
