Which Gen. Is the Best Looking

I think the 3rd gens were the last to really still resemble a bit of the early 4Runners but modernized but once the 4th gen came out it was a big departure from the traditional look. The 4th gens were a bit porky in it's proportions and followed the tradition of keeping it on the lowered stance but it did come with more creature comforts and power. IMO the 4th generation divided 4Runner loyalists but gained alot of younger followers.
Now with the 5th gen I think it's kind of a return to the 4Runner looking a bit more rugged and (in the case of the TE model) ready to tackle a rough trail right off the showroom floor. Even with the Limited it has a semblence to the 3rd gen lineage but with more power and electronic goodies.
Yes,it did lose the V8 and a few amenities which was a result of cost cutting but even with tons of negative comments from critics (very few doubted it's off road prowess) it has been a bit of a revival for the 4Runner since sales shot up 136% over the '09 4th gen.
I'm seeing 5th gens on a daily basis now (at least 1 TE a week) here in the Denver metro area so I'm sure 2011 models will exceed 50k sold and I don't think Toyota is disappointed with those numbers.
I think the 4Runner will continue to get better over the next couple of years (when I'll be ready to buy one
) and sales will continue to grow as long as gas prices stay in check.

I think the 5th gen looks more like the 1st gen than anything else, especially the wheel arches/bulges.
But from the back, the 5th gen doesn't look anything like any 4Runner every made. And that's what I don't like about it. The taillights look like an afterthought.

I like the 2nd gens, but like noted earlier, they're improved upon largely with the 3rd.
Now that I have a 4th gen to drive around, I like it more than before, but I still would rather have it's motor in my 3rd gen.

at stock. gotta go with the 1st gen
with modifications... its definitely a coin toss between 1st and 3rd gens. 2nd i just dont like, and the newer ones have too much plastic

That's actually the best answer on this been done before thread.
It's the only thing that made reading this less of a waste of time.
But I'd put Gen nifer Garner before Gen nifer Tilley

my opinion?
3rd gen is my fav. best looking even for a 10+ year old truck. i've loved the look of em before i could even drive..before we even had a 4runner
1st gen comes next. my friend has a 1st gen..ever since i saw his rig . i have a thing for them now
2nd gen ...eh...
4th gen....every time i see one ..its a female driving and shes usually on the phone. ..not to fond of all the curves either on the body styling
5th gen..limiteds and sr5's sit way to low to the ground..5th gen limited with 20'' factory rims look horrendous. please no mas. TE look alright though.
all in all they are all 4runners. all well built trucks. so for the love of 4runners!

I love the 2nd and 3rd gens so much. They are hands down the reason why I purchased my 4th and 5th gen. I think they've only gotten much nicer over time but the 2nd and 3rd gen. just have something about them that I won't ever be able to let go!

This poll is too skewed... it's basically showing that more 3rd and 4th gen owners are on here voting for their own. It's only natural for your own vehicle to look better in your eyes. I used to think my 2001 Tacoma was better than the 2005 when those came out. Now I don't know what I was thinking...

Not true. Many 4th gen owners voted for the 3rd gen. If it was simply a popularity contest, the 4th gen would probably win because there are MANY 4th gen owners on this forum.
Just look at the sub-forums and you'll see that there are more threads and posts in the 4th gen forum than any other subforum.
