If you're satisfied with the BFGs why spend the extra money?... Unless you're looking for a change. I have Duratracs, but may look for something different next just because I like change.

I'm just tired of how loud they are, and not very practical for my daily use. Duratracs seem to be a great all around tire.
I can only comment on my experience with 285/75/16 duratracs, but people refer to them as being 33" and mine measured in at 33.1". I don't know if this is any indication of how the 315's will measure, but just wanted to let you know mine were true to size, definitely not smaller.
Sounds good to me. I just stumbled across a disgruntled customer about the Duratrac's, that were in 315 75 R16's, which are technically ~34.6"T x 12.4"W. And he said that once installed, he measured 33.4" across his tire. So a 35" tire came out to 33.4", I just don't want that to be the case, I already have 33"s.
I did this research a while back before I got the MTZ's.. It came down to a variety of things, not just true tire size. Things like tire weight, section width, ply, tread depth, and customer reviews for self cleansing, noise, mileage, etc etc... Ultimately, it came down to what I have now. It really comes down to personal preference. You just have to decide what you're willing to sacrifice to make the decision. Mine came down to weight and width, so I sacrificed true tire size. They're only 34.5's but they fit perfect with a 11.9" section width and weigh only 67 lbs. a piece.
Your very right. I have been taking many variables into consideration, but was going to average the consumer opinions to be the outcome. I wanted a somewhat light tire, and everything is roughly around 63-70 pounds. The BFG's are 68 pounds and the Goodyears are 64 pounds. The Wranglers also have a 1/32" more tread depth, which is minuscule, but is swaying my decision more and more.
I have found the the duratracs run large... I have had 4 different 285 70 17s and the duratrac is by far the largest of them. But another great tire for a great price is the maxxis bighorn, for all the reasons jwaldz just mentioned plus price.
Interesting. That is good to know that they run true/roughly large. I just don't want buyers remorse after I put new bigger tires on, and they barely fill my wheel well, just like the 33's. I was also looking at the Maxxis Bighorns and liked the tread design. Also interesting that it is around the same as the Duratracs. I will look into them.
EDIT: No one seems to have the Maxxis BigHorns in a 315 75 R16. Any size variations that you know of?
I had to make the exact same choice not long ago, I went with the bfgs because of the tread life.
I have also been thinking about tread life, as I am expecting a child within a few months. I don't want to be running through tires every 2 years. But I really like the tread design of the Duratracs over the BFG's.
