I already answered that question. Also, I did not say that anyone would get what they paid for in their mods when they resell the vehicle. But to claim mods aren't worth anything unless you take them off, restore the vehicle to stock, then sell the mods separately is patently wrong.
In the first place, some mods require altering a vehicle to where it's either near impossible, unpractical, or unfeasible to change it back to it's original form after the mods have been made. What, you going to spend the time and money to take off custom control arms and suspension components and try to sell them by themselves? Used? That's just one small example.
There is a new car dealership near my house that moves a huge amount of "pre-owned" vehicles which includes a lot of 4X4 vehicles many of which have extensive modifications. Not two months ago they sold a significantly older model Jeep Wrangler 2-door that was lifted, had an entire suspension mod, exhaust system mod, and all kinds of crap done to the dash, big well-worn knobbed tires--it had obviously been used hard offroad, and the interior was sh*t. The body was beat to hell, it was dirty underneath and the bumpers had been rearranged by rocks and boulders. $23,000.00. That Jeep wasn't on the lot for one week and it sold. So has every modded Hummer, and any other modded 4 X 4 used vehicle they had. I've talked to a couple of salesman at that dealership and they both told me they have no problem selling modded vehicles--DOESN'T MATTER WHO DID THE MODS! All they need is the right customer and the right salesman.
Now, things are different for a private seller. But the mods are still worth something. But if your rig looks like a piece of shoddy workmanship and/or cheap parts, and it reflects negligence and poor care and/or abuse, there ain't nothing you can do that will get you anywhere near what you want for it.
But if you guys want to continue to BS yourselves and either go through the hassle of R & Ring your 4R back to stock then independently selling each USED part you've taken off of it, because you think mods aren't worth anything installed, knock yourselves out.
Of course you're going to take some sort of dump on your investment--whether it has mods or not. That's the way things work. But it's just plain stupid to think or say that mods aren't worth anything. That kind of mindset guarantees you'll never get what you want for your vehicle.
Now, this kid who wants $50K for his extensively modded 4R may not get $50K for it. Or he might. Like I said before, it's going to take a particular buyer who wants to buy that particular kind of rig. And it's exactly those mods--that so many of you think aren't worth anything--that will sell that vehicle. NOT the stock configuration! What about people that want a ready made 4R like that?
If someone wants it bad enough, they'll pay for it.
