Yeah, I like the fake hood scoop on my TRD Pro and my wife has fake boobs. So, I’m pretty happy with both.

That is why I bought the SR5, I dont like leather in an offroad vehicle and I didnt really care for the hood scoop

Its fake leather and is the easiest seats to wash mud off of, water and a towel

Agreed! Softex is great! Really durable and super easy to clean.

Durable is right! Had a 150 platinum with supposed upgraded leather and although "plush" or whatever 5 months of sliding outta the seat had them worn out.
About 4 month on the runner and same sliding out of it, seats look new

The world is full of cars with fake scoops, for aesthetic reasons. Why would you want a ‘functional’ scoop dumping all sorts of crap into your engine compartment when your engine doesn’t get its air from there? As I think someone else mentioned, only carbureted cars would benefit from a functional scoop. For the rest of us, it just looks cool.

Wouldn't opening it up for just airflow for cooling the engine compartment be feasible and effective?

Toyota tried to make it functional. But instead of pushing air into the engine compartment, air moving over the scoop created a vacuum and pulled air *out* of the engine compartment.

Its not big enough to have tha RAM air affect. Look at the other vehicles with functional hoods. They are a lot bigger than the ones on our 4R.

You guys talk down on the SR5s like they a 4cyl version LOL !!. Why? Still same frame tranny hp, 4wd. No crawl control fancy knobs or terrain select so what. A "fixed up" sr5 can still be very good at off roading. Is it bragging rights?

Bought a 19 SR5 P—liked everything else about the ORP but that hokey Hood scoop ——was a dealbreaker.

The only FUNCTIONAL scoop that I can think of offhand are on the Subarus. They are turbo'ed motors with a top mount intercooler.

"Functional hood scoops" that don't directly feed an intercooler or some relevant intake piping tend to actually interfere with the air flow on a normal vehicle since the dynamics are designed such that the air flows in the FRONT of the vehicle and out through the rear gap in the hood at the windshield.

Thanks for the response. The only vehicle that came to my mind was also a Subaru, and with an intercooler it makes sense. Possibly other similar intercooled engines that we aren’t thinking of, and some of those might scoop air from below. But as for me, I wouldn’t want road trash, rain, dust, etc. scooped into my engine compartment just so that I could say my hood scoop wasn’t fake. But I do like the looks of the fake scoop. Just as I like other styling cues of my TRDOR, and other 4Runners, for that matter.

I honestly haven't kept up with all the vehicles nowdays.

But I believe the Subaru STI is one. It feeds air direct into the intake for cooler IAT temps.

Look how big theirs is compared to ours. Not to mention the hood slope. I'm not expert but its like that for a reason.

I’m sure you’re right. Intercoolers are a good reason to have a functional scoop. I didn’t think about that.
