Who thinks I should change my LBJ's

I've noticed some leading edge feathering on the inside edge of my front tires. I've ordered Tundra 5100's and new outer and inner tie rod ends. After first noticing the odd wear I rotated the tires and had an alignment done and everything was right in the middle of spec's. The guy that did the alignment said that all the ball joints looked tight. Since I'm already going to break it down this far, who thinks I should go ahead and do the LBJ's. The truck is a 2000 SR5 4x4 with 166K miles and has never been wheeled, just dirt roads and on road snow.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I think the consensus is to change them out and doing so with OEM and get new bolts too. If you have the money you might as well since you have everything taken apart and you'll have to get it realigned so it saves you having to get realigned twice. Gives you peace of mind as well. Mine are tight too, but I'm going to change them out anyways as preventative maintenance. I wish I would have done it when I replaced the inner and outer. If they do fail, its not a pretty sight.

my runner only has 118k miles on it and previous owner didn't wheel at all. He couldn't remember the last time he put it 4 wheel

that's exactly what I was thinking, better to do it now than have to do it later and cost 3 times as much. Guess I'll place another order.

I think you can get them online through camelback Toyota for 86 bucks a piece. I don't have a link, but its the cheapest place if I remember correctly.

though I think you have to buy replacement bolts separate.

Disconnecting the LBJ makes swapping-in the (longer) Tundra struts loads easier anyway. Cheap insurance.

Check for play. Look on the first page of my build thread for my ball joint write up.
If there is play replace them.

You do not need to get an alignment if all you do it replace ball joints.

Mine has 102000 miles and I'm going to do lbs and tie rod ends, should the uppers be replaced?

I've heard that the uppers don't get nearly as much work as the lowers and don't need to be changed unless they are visibly worn. Personally I'm not changing them unless they have failed or have play. I heard they are also a pain to change.

They are more involved than the lowers, and I've never seen a catastrophic failure like with the lowers, but their not that bad top change.

I did mine this morning.
