maybe we did a different part but it was slow going and we came to a spot that would require a ton of stacking of rocks and I mean a ton to get up and over. It is an awesome area and I'd like to do it again, but with better tires and more front end clearance.
where we were there wasn't exactly access to the fire service trail.
The fire road crosses in and out of the trail, they braid each other. We typically run the trail to the waterfall, then leave via the fire road so we can see other things in the area, go to El Rancho, go fix broken exhaust, etc.
Like I said before, there are a lot of different options for lines, so it completely depends on where you want to drive it. My buddies and I have big tires, lockers, pretty big lifts, tend to run the more difficult lines.
The trail has changed a lot from how it used to be, too. Used to be a lot more ledges, which are now filled in with rocks either stacked or washed in from a massive rain that came through there a few years back.
The trail used to be pretty secretive, but BFG ruined that when they put it on their top 10 list for national trails. It deserves it, but also means that it gets a lot more traffic than it used to.
The big fun obstacle for most is the slot. I ran the trail back in May and got all the way to that point without remembering using the center diff lock. Made driving the trail a bit more challenging, but it was an interesting driving experience; I was quite confused when the rear locker light was blinking until my buddy called out about the center diff. Doh! First picture is a stock FJ Loser pulling out of the slot.
I'll have to see if I can talk my buddy Brian into bringing his not-so-little 4Runner out on Sunday. We would do Saturday, but the Four Peaks Cleanup and prep for a trip to Moab is getting in the way. Second picture is his rig.
