Why didn't you guys just buy a TRDP?

sorta the same deal for me - was looking for a TEP and stumbled on a TRDP unclaimed that they were dealing on about 100 miles from me.

Hard to really nail down the dollars to compare as I traded in my FJC. I feel like I got a killer deal but maybe I could have done better on a SR5 or TE. Didn't bother to even check further as none of my local dealers had anything but the SR5 and I didn't want that one.

I actually went to the dealer to buy a Nuatical Blue SR5P. Right as I was getting there they were bringing a black TRDP into the showroom. So my attention diverted to that. I even got them to haggle the price of it quite a bit. I'll admit I really like the look of the TRDP and the suspension they come with would be more than sufficient for me. But it came down to being practical for me. I bought the SR5P for $34.5. I have since added Trail wheels ($400 on CL from a guy who went to TRDP wheels) and Firestone Destination AT's ($600.) I also just bought 5100's ($325 Black Friday) and that's as far as I'll probably ever take it. I won't add the valences, hood, grill, etc. So although I'm not your target audience here, I think I'm close enough to still offer some input.

If anyone here familiar with Juke. Im also a member over there. I have the nismo, which is 100% cooler than regular Jukes. But a lot of the good people in the juke forum put some stuff to thier regular Jukes to make it look like a nismo. Some even put a nismo badge. But i never asked them or start a thread just to ask them, "why not just buy a nismo in the first place?". But some say, when theyre in the market for Juke there was no nismo available, coz it is very hard to find. Which is true, some have to order them directly from Japan. And some they dont like the colors, only come in black, white and silver. When i bought my nismo i asked the sales guy, why people buy the regular juke when you can buy a nicely tuned nismo? his answered was, if anyone wants a nismo, we will be selling all nismo.

Depends on what diesel is in it...but probably out of my price range anyways so likely a base model that I swap everything out with over time. Looking at getting one as a side project and keep 4R as primary driver

TEP $37K

Toytec Boss Kit $1200 + Grille $500 = TEP with lift and grille AND KDSS =$38700

Still Cheaper than a TRDP by more than $3k and you get a real lift and KDSS

I may be in the minority, but I don't care for quite a lot of the stuff that comes on the TRDP. No need for the wheels, shift knob, skid plate, badges and micro lift. Thus, it would be silly to pay the premium for one just to say you bought one.

In my case, that $3k got spent on a Baja Rack, Hefty Fabworks sliders, Hefty bumper and some nice Baja Designs lights. IMHO money way better spent than wasting it on a TRDP.... I do love the inferno, but not enough to offset the $5k price.

Jesus……..This again? Look OP; we get it. Who are you to be questioning someone why they put on X,Y,Z, mods? It’s their T4R; let them do what they want to it.

Honestly I would never question anyone as to why they put on a certain mod.

I have a TRD and I could care less if someone with a TE/TEP bought a grill, changed wheels, shift-knobs, etc……

I actually thought the suspension sucked, so I changed mine out to a Icon LT, installed Ellis Precision shift knobs, upgraded (IMHO) the tires to BFG/KO2’s, and am fixin to delete the roof rack.

Does that sound like a waste of money? Who cares……It’s my T4R; if I have the cash to do those things, then what business is it of yours? Are you my Financial Adviser? My spouse? My Mom? Do I have to answer to you when I Mod? If I or anyone cared about you think, then we would've asked your opinion in the first place……….:reddance:

I'm glad the TRDP is out there. I'm a jeep guy and was looking for a new SUV. The first TRDP that I saw is what drew my attention to the 4runner and put it on my radar. I knew that the 4runner had a 3rd row and that was one of the requirements for my new ride. I decided to buy a TRDP and then discovered that the 3rd row wasn't available on that model. Then I looked into the trail and found that it didn't have the 3rd row either. I now have an lightly modded SR5P which I love. I do like the TRDP grill but I'm not going to shell out $500 for one.
