Why is the 4cyl the best looking 2010 ?

Probably because most people would not pick the 4-cyl for a 1mpg improvement, so it has to have something else going for it.

If I were to get a 5th gen, I'd pick the Limited because of the FT 4WD system and the creature features, but I hate the cheezy Cadillac Escalade bling that it has. The SR5 and TE looks much better, but I don't like the PT 4WD system on those. I guess Toyota's back to the roots design doesn't make on trim particular standout over the next as the "better" choice for me. BTW, I hate it when they do that. I prefer they build a top of a line model with everything the lower trims have but the kitchen sink.

This is kind of my thinking as well. Even in this day and age the 4cyl does not offer much economy over the 6. So Toyota had to do something to make it stand out. I bet most dealers won't even stock the 4cyl. Is it even offered in 4WD?

As for the 4WD system I don't really mind the PT 4WD system on my 3rd Gen but I made a pledge several months ago that my next SUV would have a FT 4WD system. Kind of sad Toyota still lives in the stone age and even offers a PT system on all models but the Limited. I guess they have to satisfy the purist some how. So if I ever buy a 5th Gen it would likely be a Limited. Probably what I would do is buy a Limited and try like heck to swap out the wheels from an SR5. Probably will not be that difficult by the time I get around to it since spending 40K+ on a vehicle is next to impossible at the moment.

I dont think its a matter of being stuck in the past. Since they have all the systems they could want in their parts bin, the fact that it has been decontented and the model line up packaged in a way that makes little sense to us (what do we know??....) means that there is a power play between beancounters and product planners/marketing.

How much more can a FT 4WD system cost over a PT? Why not just make PT an option - those who want it, will wait for it as a special order. Alternatively, charge me more for a FT system, and I will wait for the special build.

It is clear they worked hard to cut cost on this model and dealers no longer have stock up to their eyeballs, so people will get used to waiting for a new car after ordering it as you do in most other countries if you want something specific.

From a logistical point of veiw, all these parts are already inventoried, and inventory supply has been JIT for years, so the incremental build cost of a special order should not be that much more than a generic model and you would just pay for the pricier component... Why not move to a wider/ala carte, cost adjusted, options and packaging build sheet?

X2 :bravo:

I was out on the Toyota Configurator and was suprised at the first image that autoloaded. It looked great! It was the 4cyl. No overdone body kit that the V6 SR5s and Limited have, No ugly black bumpers, doorhandles, and mirrors that the Trail has. This is how they all should look!

Update that the Toy Canada site has finally been updated (see the other thread.) It shows this cladding scheme on the base SR5 V6 4x4! So the SR5 V6 will look different than the US version. The 4x4 is Multi-mode with torsen (part-time; fulltime on Ltd.) There is no 4x2 or 4 cyl.
I'm not in the market but Toyota did it right in The Great White North.

Also, it's missing the mast in the pics. In fact, some pics have the bump on the driver's fender. Misleading? Go figure.

upon closer inspection, it's actually not quite the same body style shared between the SR5 and Trail…
personally, i prefer the more tucked up front and rear of the Trail.

Yep. An SR5 V6 4WD with Upgrade package (same as adding convenience and premium pack on a US version), also has multimode 4WD standard, and from the pick, incls running boards and mudflaps. Looks good. But then it comes in at just under $42k CAD, which at the current exchange rate is US spec 4WD Limited money. I guess the grass isnt really greener on the other side. I do like it kitted out that way though, specially in magnetic grey. Best execution I've seen.

I hate comparing C$ to U$ prices. That's with a reasonable rate; it's been alot worse. The price we pay to live where we do... don't get me started.
