This guy is just a shill for Toyota. He said before there will be reliability issues with the new Tundra and the turbos will have no problems. The Tundra is having more electrical issues than Russian space shuttle.

I can't justify spending 50k for basically the exact same vehicle that I have now. They have not really changed anything in 12 years. The console is still the same, they could not even create a new center section where the old heated seat controls where, they just added blanks, lol.
It is a great vehicle, no doubt, but can't justify the upgrade cost without some decent changes.

This is still the 5th generation you are talking about - so of course it’s basically the same vehicle as your 2010 4Runner.
No one knows what the console will look like on a 6th generation 4Runner as there are no spy photos yet.

I ordered a '22 mainly for it's reliability. The new 4Runner will have the 2.4 Lexus turbo. This has not been out very long and if Toyota follows what they did with the Tundra the turbo will be designed differently. Everyone, including automotive press, has said Toyota would never risk their reliability rating by releasing a Tundra with problems. Just look at the codes that thing is throwing, turbo replacement in the first week of ownership, antifreeze smell, transmission issues being reported. It's a completely redesigned truck. It drives great but I would wait 3-5 years to buy one.
It depends how long you keep your vehicles. Turbos will not last as long as the 5.7 or 4.0. The only thing I wish the 22 4Runner had is a heated steering wheel. The interior does look dated but it will last for 20 years and all of the tech is still there.

I know....I was answering 'why you would want to wait for the 6th'. No reason to upgrade from a 5th to a 5th as not much has changed. There are some companies that, within the same gen, will make significant changes, to where upgrading is well worth it. I feel with the 4R it is only really worth it to jump gens, unless you put on a ton of miles.

That is nothing. I put my deposit down in early September 2021 and it is being delivered next week. I also "ordered" exactly what I wanted but unfortunately with Toyota you are picking from allocations so the one being delivered is coming without a sunroof even though I "ordered" one with a sunroof. Beggars can't be choosers in this market unfortunately

I have decided we will either get more than we wanted as far as options go (and pay more), or get less than what we wanted from a dealer allocation vehicle. Ala Cart ordering is over, for now.
Buying a Toyota in the US market has always been strictly from the allocation pool. The pool is just more shallow right now.

Having only one new car buying experience back in 2000, I guess I'm out of touch. Back then, you shopped around a little and usually found what you wanted at a dealer, and delivery was in a couple days or so. No multi month waiting list like now for sure.
Yeah, watching that video I lost count of the reasons he listed for why we are on a few waiting lists for a '22 TRD Off Road Premium w/ KDSS. I have a 2010 Trail w/ KDSS that I paid cash for new, and it has been flawless for 125,000 miles of fly fishing and upland bird hunting. It's as close to the '88 FJ-62 we put 325,000 miles on before we sold it - like idiots! Only reason we sold it was there were no rear 3-point seatbelts and our oldest child grew into a 3-point seatbelt booster seat. '89 was the year shoulder harness seat belts arrived. We're just going to add the current edition of my 2010 Trail to the spot in our garage next to it knowing the 6th gen won't be the same. Then we'll drive that TRD Off Road for the next 15 years too...

I'm hoping to get it by May when the salt is off the road. Luckily we have little choice in Canada so the Off-Road I ordered comes with a sunroof, kdss, the new camera system on the front and sides and climate control. The only thing that can go wrong is the colour but I'm assuming lunar rock will be a popular colour this year.
Since I put my deposit down there was an announcement of a further production cut in Japan so hopefully I get it eventually. If it goes too long and they announce the 2023 will be the same 5th gen I will be ok waiting. Just don't want to miss the last of this generation as this will be my retirement vehicle soon.

My MGM trd pro is supposed to arrive at the dealers at end of the month.
It's got everything I wanted and at MSRP so I'm happy.
There are quite a few port add ons install, but I eventually wanted most of them: black out emblems, trd pro floor mats, cargo cover, hitch ball mount, dual power usb ports w/ cables (although I wish it was just the ports, the extra price for the cables is ridiculous but whatever), hood protector/deflector (didn't really care about it), and lastly, predator tube step (don't want it, hopefully I can sell it as soon as possible)
