Why you want to wait for the 6th Gen

I can't justify spending 50k for basically the exact same vehicle that I have now. They have not really changed anything in 12 years. The console is still the same, they could not even create a new center section where the old heated seat controls where, they just added blanks, lol.

It is a great vehicle, no doubt, but can't justify the upgrade cost without some decent changes.

This is why I am waiting for 6 gen. I think there will be serious upgrades. Please keep the roll down rear window.

Why would Toyota make a perfect vehicle when they can just leave us in low mpg/power/towing capability prison with the 5 speed?

Seriously. The 5 speed trans is my one and only gripe with my 5th gen. It's perfect to me otherwise.

First post but you may get a bigger screen , with a brand new small displacement engine with turbos. Turbos are like outboard engines . Just replace em every 5 to 7 years if you’re using them .

I had a 2019 4Runner Turd Pro, loved it. After a year and a half of ownership, I got convinced to try out the Jeep life. Before we get into all that, I just want to say that both vehicles, Jeep and 4Runner have pro's and con's and both served a different purpose for me. If I had to do it all over again, personally, I would of never got rid of my 2019 4runner.

My 2021 Rubicon was great off road, in stock form I was able to do 80% and then some of the trails around here. Of course, within reason. Road noise, cabin space and issues from the factory started to get the best of me. I took it to the dealer 3x for absolutely soaked floor mats on the drivers side and passenger side every time it rained. I had my aluminum steering box replaced under warranty. I also started to notice the paint bubble on hinges with less than 15,000 kms on it. I am very meticulous with my vehicles and do a full detail at least once a month and a proper wash after every camping/off road trip. Issues with the electronic steering started to occur to a point where It would sound broken during sharp turns, that was replaced under warranty.
Yes, off road it was amazing. On road for my family with soccer, baseball, field trips and being a Dad, it just doesn't cut it like the 4Runner does.
I loved my Jeep for what it was and the purpose it serves but unfortunately after 2 years of ownership I regretted my decision of buying one. Everyone will have a different experience and I may get some hate for what I have said but ultimately for myself and my family, 4Runner makes so much more sense.

So I recently got rid of mine, I'll be driving my wifes Corolla as an A to B car and my work vehicle and I'm going to put some serious coin away for a 6th gen Hybrid. I'm willing to roll the dice on a first year as well, regardless of what issues will arise. So that's why I'm here and waiting for a new 4Runner to come back into my life.

I may have missed something while exploring dirt in the Canadian Rockies (no real 4x4 trails that I came across). But was anything said about expected features of the Prado-based USDM Land Cruiser?

Like what front wheel travel could be reasonably expected? The new Tacoma is like 11.5"; I would be surprised if the new LC comes anywhere close to that.

What about tire sizes?

What about cargo area relative to the 4R?

I guess these would be the most interesting things to me

I prefer to buy the last model year of a generation.

It has NOTHING to do with a manufacturer working out bugs. (It never worked for Land Rover, did it?)

There’s always some sort of last hurrah, or at the very least you get one with the most features.

Just between my 2021 and 2023, I missed out on:

- Blind spot monitoring
- 360 camera
- Heated steering wheel

I wouldn't be surprised if I end up in a 6th gen one day, I'm excited to see what they do. That said, I bought a 2023 ORP, so it won't be until at least the third model year of the new generation, maybe fifth. I'll want to see that the new truck is totally dependable if I'm gonna give up one that's completely known to be totally dependable. I don't think Toyota will screw it up, but I'll still give them some years to polish it. I'm reminded of such early adopter issues as the first batch of 2022 Tundras with the junk turbos from the junk supplier. I certainly don't need to be the first kid on the block with the new toy!

Being a old guy (78) and thinking about this vehicle being my last purchase for a new vehicle and this is probably because I will only be driving it some 3-4000 miles per year. For me I'm thinking the 2024 old style 4 Runner would be the better choice, as it is a proven vehicle over the years and I'm not really interested in a Turbo power engine, or a Hybrid. Better fuel mileage doesn't inter in here, just long-time reliability. The model I like is the TRD Off Road and if it does not have the Premium option that will be ok with me, as long as it has AppleCarPlay I'm good to go.

I had similar thinking back in 2022 when we bought our new ORP. Now that I see where they went with the Sequoia, I'm glad we did! Always having a dog, the roll down rear window has always been important. Cargo area in our 4Runner is not exactly generous, so if they eat into it on the 6th Gen for the hybrid system, it would certainly be Game Over when combined with the loss of the rear window.
Would I like a little more power and couple extra gears? Sure, but not as important as those other things, and don't find the 5th Gen THAT much underpowered, especially coming from a 3rgd Gen.
I would opt for the Premium as we did. The Softec seats are easy to clean, are heated, and you get the Autodimming rear view mirror, heated mirrors with turn signal.

New I phone new model year gotta be the first..
I learned my lesson when I bought the new and improved Corvette C7 then 2 years later they came out with the C8 for $7k more . I would have easily waited .

I didn't read all the post on this topic as I feel it wouldn't apply to me. I just purchased a new 2024 TRD Off Road because of its past history on a vehicle that would work for me. At 78 I wanted a vehicle that would be the last vehicle I might buy and "Old School" would work for me. I don't want a Turbo, or a Hybrid are probably my first reasons for not wanting a 6th generation vehicle. Other reason are it being a new vehicle and I would rather buy one the second year of production, thus many of the first year production problems will have been sorted out by then.

I had a 4th Gen V8 4Runner for 13 years. I’ve had a 2013 200 for about 7 years. I respect the reliability of the 5th Gen 4Runner and it is the right size for me. But having test driven the 2016 three times, I have to say that I hated that drivetrain. I found the 4.0 V6 to have little low-end torque and its noise was coarse when pushed. Yes, I realize that 0-60 with the 4.0 is similar to the 0-60 of my old 4.7. But that old 4.7 was a very relaxed experience when driving, due to its smoothness and low end torque.

So, no, the 5th Gen isn’t a vehicle that I want. I also test drove the 2016 GX. That had a smoother powertrain, but was still low on low end torque. The larger concerns for me were the barn door (which I dislike), the poor visibility to the rear three quarters and straight back, the poor cargo room due to the built in third row, and an uncomfortable seat bottom cushion (which felt like it was digging into my thighs). I also hate the spindle grille. So the GX 460 is not an alternative for me.

I will be looking at the 250/GX550. I do wish Toyota had kept them closer in size to the 4Runner/GX460. Instead, they are almost identical in size to the 200. I am concerned about first year issues. I’m sure Toyota will get reliability sorted out, but the first year could have issues. I also wonder how the 6th Gen 4Runner will fit into the model lineup, if it is also built on TNGA-F. I will probably get a new vehicle before the 6th Gen is released.

I compared a 24 Tacoma Sport next to a 24 4Runner TRD Off-road today at the dealership. I think I prefer the old interior of the 4R to the new Tacoma and the quality of the 4R seems much better.

I think the styling has a lot to do with my preference of the 4Runner interior to the new Tacoma interior. Everything is just so big and blocky and IM A REAL TRUCK from a styling perspective. I hope that things are toned down a little bit when the 4Runner comes out. Honestly, if the interior is straight carryover, I'll be really tempted to go Land Cruiser.

I know, weird take from a guy with a bright orange 4Runner. haha

I think the Gen 5 models will not drop in value that soon, if they even do, as their production numbers are high as well as their quality and longevity of the model. All you have to do is look at the value of the older Toyota's Land Cruisers, Toyota FJ's, and the Lexus models that are built from the same, or similar model, GX 460, etc. All these vehicles have very high resale values and buyers of the Toyota and Lexus models buy because of this and quality of the built probably being the number one reason. I know for myself this was my reason for buying a new 2024 TRD Off Road, first the new Gen 6 model was not to my liking, the body looks great, but did not want the new 4 cylinder engine with a Turbo, fuel mileage is not a concern to me and all the updates to the electronics, radio, etc. are not needed for this older guy, plus this 2024 is all I need. Now Toyota adding another vehicle, the new Land Cruiser to this market and with the cost of new vehicles today, I feel your Gen 5 will become even a better buy, as the new models are going to be a good step up in price and many will not be able to pay for those higher priced vehicles. Once again, 4 Runner buyers and owners are not your average buyer of a 4 wheel drive vehicle, I would think they are more upscale, spend their money wisely, and understand the value of a good product. Oh, by the way, I will never off road my new 4 Runner, I just purchased it because I like the vehicle and I feel a good way to spend my money for this old guy.
