Wife filled gas tank with Diesel fuel

I've been in your situation OP.
When I was in college, I filled up my car (a '99 Saab 9-3 SE HOT) with what I thought was 93 octane, it was diesel. Turns out the trucker dumped his load of diesel in the 93 tank. My car made it about 20 feet before it died. The gas station paid to have the car towed to the dealership, drain the tank, and clean the injectors. I think I was the 5th car before the gas station figured it out. They also paid for a car rental for me.
I've also got a '13 Jetta SW TDI that I am constantly worried about accidentally filling it up with gas, or filling up my 4Runner with diesel. Hasn't happened yet.

We had a tough time pulling the tank out, couldn't figure out how to disconnect the connection from the sending unit, above the tank without breaking anything. Also there is no schrader valve on the fuel system & we were unable to locate a fuel relay. No drain plug on the tank as well.
We used an external fuel pump and syphoned the fuel from the rear inlet of the tank as much as we could & then disconnected the fuel supply lines (send & return) running up into the engine bay were they connect to the hard lines and syphoned the remaining fuel from the tank. We could have emptied the entire tank from this point, in the first place & saved time. Once we removed as much diesel as possible, we added gasoline & syponed again to rinse out the remaining diesel fuel in the lines. Added more gas, syhoned again to prime the line, reattached the lines & she fired up right away. I filled the tank to dilute any excess diesel that could still remain in the system but just enough to burn through with injector cleaner & then I'll refill once I'm on empty.
Engine light came on as suspected earlier. A code was thrown but the engine light went away after refueling.

Did this once by accident years ago to my old international p/u. Half a tank of diesel before noticing, coming from a night of drinking and dancing, had a hot chick in the truck, Hey, I was distracted. After my boo,boo I just topped it off with premium, called it ethyl back then and went on my way, never a hiccup. No fuel injection to worry about tho, that might be a problem here.
I'd just suck/siphon out as much as possible and fill it with premium gas and go for it. Maybe run some injector cleaner thru it at the same time.
