Will 285/65 or 275/65 fit with NO lift (just a little heat gun work)?

I have been reading and searching and seem to find a LOT of information on what others have done but they seem to all have lifts involved.

Thought I'd just ask outright.

Will 18" 285/65's or 275/65's fit without lifting? I don't mind tweaking the fender liners a bit, but I'd love to just install em and not worry about a lift for a while.

I really would prefer not to put spacers (ToyTec 2.5/3.0). I'd rather wait and install the best of the best in an Icon or just Bilstein setup.

I had Daystar spacers on one of my 3rd Gen's but that didn't bother me at all as it was a 150k mile unit at the time...didn't mind experimenting.

I'd like to put on the new wheels (FN BFD's) and 285/65's and run with the XREAS for a while rather than going "all the way" with her so soon...

Again I imagine the answer is buried deep in the hundreds of posts I've scanned and read but wanted to ask this single question.

Wheel width and backspace on the FN BFD 18's? Are they 9 wide and 4.5 bs?

If so you should have no issues with the 275/65r18's which are nearly the same size as the 275/55r20's I ran pre-lift without issue. With the 285/65r18's you'll need the proper caster setting, +3 or more, and most likely will need to move the fender liner forward and do some minor trimming on the bumper cover.

For comparison, beware not all tires in each size category are the same physical size ie: DuraTrac 285's are bigger than Nitto 285's

Yeah, the BFD's are 9" wide with 0mm offset and 5" BS. Do I need to lift or just the trimming/adjusting?

Im running the wheels your looking on running, with 285/65, they do rub when the steering wheel is fully turned. The liner's will either need to be pushed forward or heated up with the heat gun, which I have yet to do...

and I am currently running on stock suspension with no spacers..

I also have a Magnetic Grey and went with the Graphite Gunmetallic wheels with Nitto Terra Grapplers. Overall I like the look, it changed the appearance completely.

the offset is 0 which I believe is the only option.

I have a set of 18" x 8.5" rims I am considering putting on my truck next summer. Tire stores suggest going with 265/65/18's but I am going with the 275/65/18's. I think the 285's are going to be too big.

20 vs 18 why?

Why do some LE owners reduce wheel diameter to 18? Is it looks preference or ride improvement? IMO one looks more rugged while the other refined - both good.

i'd be doing it mainly for more sidewall.. better for sand and crawling

But... yes rims and tires will also cost more. so maybe that's a factor for some people

You probably have found the answers to the questions that you were looking for already, but there was NOTHING on tv tonite, so I decided to post anyway :keyboard:


Last week, I upgraded from the O.E. Geolander G96B 245/60/20, to the Gdyr Eagle LS-2, 275/55/20. WOW!!! What a difference. Using no lift, no spacers, and stock "Limited rims", all is well.

But, I don't know just what to expect if I ever took her "off-road", rubbing, bottoming?!
