I'm wondering if it'll come on if the common tune up parts need replacing like the plugs and fuel filter and so on. I stopped by a local dealer to ask about the maintenance light, figuring maybe it was letting me know that my plugs were fouled. The tech said it comes on every 5000 miles just to remind you to do an oil change (must be for the women drivers) and that's all it meant, wasn't actually a warning light per say. I asked if those parts could need replacing even though there's no CEL on and he said if there's no CEL on then it's running as it should.
That doesn't seem right to me since i've owned a few cars and trucks over the years (all older than 06, most of them pre OBD2) and none would tell me when to change the plugs, I have to detect the miss myself. I'm wondering if they could be bad but no CEL. It doesn't seem to miss right now but the mileage seems like it's worse than it was when I bought it about a year ago (i've done a Magnaflow muffler and hcf delete), and there's soot buildup in the exhaust tip, so I suspect maybe bad O2 sensors but that usually does trip the CEL.
Any help/advice here is appeciated, i'm hardly a mechanic, I basically do what I can out of necessity so I don't know a whole lot.
