Will this help with onroad as well as off-road performance?

If not what will? I'm definitely looking for both. Is there anything else that should be added to that?

Thanks guys

Yes, it should give you a much better ride. At least that is what most of us feel. I'd go through Toytec though. You can also get the pieces separately and save money. Toytec has a coupon code out that will save 10% I believe. Lastly, someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but even without kdss I don't think you'll need the differential drop.

I like saving money. Any chance you'd have a parts list to price parts separately?

You should use the diff drop.

I just looked at both the Bilsteinlift site and Toytec's site... the Bilsteinlift site doesn't have the option to swap out the front coils for HD coils for a bumper or winch. The TT site does have that option. Factor in the 10% forum discount on TT and that makes more sense to order from them.

What's the forum discount code?

That should definitely help the ride but personally, I'd go with the 6112 Bilsteins. I also recommend buying from TT or Wheeler's offroad. You can choose to run a diff drop if you want but it's not really needed on this platform.

The 6112 is a bigger, beefier shock which offers more dampening and rebound control vs the 5100. The 6112's use a 14"x3" spring, which is what a lot of coilovers use, so there is a lot of choices out there should the need arise to upgrade the 600lb springs that the 6112's come with to something else. They are very similar to the TRD springs/shocks the TRD Pro comes with. The 6112's are about as close to a full coilover as you can get without actually going with a full-blown coilover. I use them on my 4th gen and I'm very happy with their performance both on and off road. Before these, I ran 5100's on my 4th gen and it was a noticeable difference switching to the 6112. Don't get me wrong, the 5100 is a great shock as well but these are the next level.

Look under the vendors section and find Toytec's section. It'll be posted there. I don't want to post it here, plus it changes from time to time so if I post it here it might come up in a search a year from now and be wrong.

I think the diff drop is a good idea, for $30 more it's peace of mind at the very least.

Can you explain why? And the purpose of a diff drop? Sorry still learning.

Well, I mean, it's in the link you posted... but here, I'll cut and paste it for you:

TAC-DR-05 Front Diff Drop Kit – When installing a lift on the front of a 4wd, the angles of the front CV axles will increase the higher you lift it. At 3 inches of lift, the CV joints will operate at considerable angle which will increase wear on the CV joints and the rubber boots. The front differential drop kit will reduce the angle placed on the CV axles thereby reducing wear on those components.

Actually if you search 5th Gen Lifts for the T4R on this forum you will see most people don't put it in. It is needed in some vehicles, but the CV angles with most lifts in the 5th gen are moderate and it is unnecessary for our vehicles. However, some like to put it in because it makes them feel better. That choice is yours, but there is a cost...

My impression is that at / over 3" you start getting into the area where it is useful. Below 3" front, not needed.

What "cost" are you referring to? You mean, the literal cost of $30, or is there some negative aspect I'm unaware of?

Ok then, thanks. That was easy enough!

To answer your original question, making your truck 3" taller is not going to help on-road performance at all. It will negatively impact any emergency maneuvers and increases your roll over risk. It also decreases your fuel economy and makes it harder to fit into parking garages among other things.

get the 5100s from TotalAutomotive (Forum sponsor/retailer) for the best price and you do not need a diff drop.... take that $30 and buy beer

The more I think about it the less I really want a lift. Maybe 1.5 " or something, max. I don't want to screw around with fuel economy since I commute 45 miles to work each way 5 days a week.

No. Do a search. The diff drop won't give you anything if your lift is less than 3".

OP the 4Runner with KDSS in its stock form will give you the best possible performance for both on and off road. Any mods you do with the exception of tires will improve either on road or off road but not both.
