Winch for TE

Wondering what you guys think of the WARN VR8000 for my TE 4runner. Buying the BudBuilt hidden winch mount soon. Thanks

The general rule of thumb for minimum winch ratings is 1.5 times your vehicle's GVW. For a TE the GVW is 6300 lbs, so you're looking at a minimum pull rate of 9450 lbs. The 8000 will work, but if it were me I wouldn't go with anything rated less than 9500 lbs of line pull.

I've opted for the Warn VR1000-s (10,000lb winch with synthetic line). DucMonsta's shop will be installing it along with my SW bumper in the next couple of days! Just dropped the truck off this AM before I head off to Arizona for a couple of days.

Yep, it'll turn that VR8000 into a 16000 lb winch for $60.

Quick question on the BB hidden winch mount: Will that work with all models, or just the TE? It looks as though it'll work with SR5s and LEs, but all they have pictured is a TE...

Assuming you have enough winch line to double back from the snatch block all the way to your truck, and that you are not having to do any kind of directional change with your line routing.

My opinion (FWIW) is that anyone with a winch have at least 1 snatch block in their recovery kit (among other things - gloves, tree saver, line damper etc.), and I wouldn't count on the snatch block to be able to make up for a smaller winch in all situations.

The VR1000 is like, $100-$150 more I think than the VR8000, not a huge price difference.

Right, I forgot it was the VR we're talking about. I was thinking about the XD9000 (the next size up from 8000s) Those puppies are a cool grand.

On Bud's website it doesn't specify a trim level like his other stuff does, so I'd guess it can be installed on any version. Best bet for a definite answer would probably be from the source though.
