wind noise in the wheel well

Recently, I started to notice what sounded like gusts of wind , or rather like wind passing through small spaces. I can also "feel" the wind vibration sort of in my legs. This noise seems to be primarily coming from the driver side wheel well. So I looked to compare the drivers side and passenger side wheel wells to see if there was a difference between the two. What I noticed was that a piece of the somewhat spongy black thick coating { I dont knmw what else to call it} on the drivers side is missing leaving a few holes open. It made me think if I knocked that piece off when I was cleaning the wheel wells last time. Anyway, does anyone have any pointers on what that coating is and where I can buy it?

Here are two pictures. The first one is the passenger side wheel well and the second is the drivers side. Do you guys see the coating missing and holes visible in the drivers side wheel well?

Ok wrong diagnosis. I checked out a few new 4Rs at the dealership and they all have that!

Ha, I was about to say it seems like just some sprayed on undercoating, but I guess you figured it out already

Not sure what to say besides maybe checking all your door seals and giving it a quick wipe with a wet rag (and cleaning off the mating door jamb surface too).

Other than that maybe you can check under the hood and see if any rubber grommets are missing and/or slightly out of place on the firewall?
